Thinking about buying Mustang...Help a new guy out please..
Well I have recently been thinking about buying a mustang...I own a 2002 Subaru WRX right now and I dont know if the car is really for me or what I want...I am more of a cruisy showy type of guy so what I was thinking is I found someone who is really interested in buying my wrx and I was looking at buying a 00 Gt Convertible....This kid here in town owns it and I know him pretty well, the car is in great condition...I really would love to have a convertible to cruise in and maybe get a saleen kit on it with some nice wheels...the only thing is that once I buy the car I will have about $5000 or a little more to play with, I was thinking what to buy at first and one of my friends and I decided that I could get a Vortech Supercharger...it seems like alot of fun and would make some GREAT HP and be a fun driving car, What I am worried about is reliability...I just have the car as a Daily Driver which I would maybe go to the track with a few times a year. It would be fun to have the S/C to whoop on locals who want to mess around on the street but I have heard that you need alot of things to be tuned to add a S/C on the car...I am thinking for performance mods I would want a good intake, maybe headers and a nice exhaust, what kind of times and power will I make? With my Wrx I added about 3k in the motor and it ran a 13.6 at the track and that car seemed pretty fast to me....So to even match my wrx I wouldnt even need to add a blower onto a mustang....Help me out on what to do guys....also, it sounds dumb but how about upkeep and gas mileage...am I going to be gettin like 12 miles to the gallon in a big V8 modded and will I be spending alot of time in the garage wrenching on the car? I am just thinking what I could do to maybe run the times my Wrx did which a Vortech would definitely OUTDO, but keep a good reliability to have fun with and not worry about breaking things all the time....thanks alot guys
Gas mileage, I get about 270-320 per tank and I think that I am running a little rich. It is about a 14.7 gallon tank but I am not sure on the exact size. I know one of these other guys know for sure. Upkeep. I have not had a problem with mine and I am the only owner of it. As far as the SC goes, go to www.modularfordpowerhouse.com and talk to Tim a.k.a. Cobra Killer. He has a kit that comes with everything you need to blow your car for a fair price. Tell him what you are looking for HP wise and he will know how to set you up. As for the rest of the stuff, a good complete exhaust (headers back) is never a bad way to go. Just do some research on what ever it is you are looking at and look for both sides of the story. Hoped this helped and good luck.
20's might be overkill on a 'Stang. 18's look really nice, especially if you lower it an inch or so and put a classy body kit on.

I am planning on gettin a saleen or roush front with roush sideskirts and a saleen rear bumper...thats what i want to do for a body kit, as for rims I DEFINITELY am going 20" or 21" rims....I know a few guys rolling around here on 20s and they have no problem just a little wheel gap so I think I might get 20s with a one inch drop or so...

that would be nice...........i mean rice .. You would lose so much performance with 20s and you would have to like raise ur car to get those in.. Go with 18s..
I guess I am a ricer...How is owning a nice car like a wrx rice and How is putting 20s on a mustang RICE?? It fits NO probs and you can put a one inch drop on the car still...my friend has already done it and his car looks sweet as hell.... I want my car to look good and I dont care how fast it is on the street...I have already had the whole speed/race thing with my wrx and it was fun for a while..now I just want something that looks a little more flashy and to cruise in...If i really cared about performance and losing power I wouldnt go with the convertible....I dont think I am going to go with the supercharger anymore unless i get a procharger...but I dont think I will be posting here very often because I get nothing but rude comments and jacka$$es who try to cut down on peoples stuff...if someone wants to do something to their car who are you to tell them otherwise..all I gotta say is hey, its MY $25k and Ill spend it any damn way I please and I will be happy with it....
I've seen one mustang with 20s and it looked terrible, it handled terrible and he had a terrible ride... You say you want something that looks good, why are you going with 20s then?
OK, well like I said a friend of mine HAS 20" rims on his 99 Convertible Gt and it rides just fine...no problems...I really dont care what you guys think about 20s and putting them on a mustang because I am going to do it regardless....
I agree with you Concept, its your car to do what you want with . What ever makes you happy is what I always say. I personally would go with 19's if it were me, but you didn't ask for wheel advice. I wouldn't worry about a supercharger if tuned right you should have a reliable 12 sec car. Good luck with your mustang purchase.
