Default T-45 problems

Has anyone had problems with your t-45 tranny. Mine does not like reverse all the time. It likes to pop out. Also i feel a little delay like the clutch is slipping. I might need a clutch. but most of all is the poping out of gear. My friends does the same and he has 20k and mine has 48K what is the problem and how to fix it.

There have been reports of T45s with the same problems you describe, we will check if there are any service bulletins from Ford on the subject.

Yes, this is a known problem with the T-45.

Unfortunately, it requires a rebuild to solve it, unless it is still under warranty.

Just so you know, if you run a synthetic fluid in your tranny, this will contribute to the problem. Get it out of your T-45. It is to slippery for the syncro's and will damge the tranny. If under warranty, Ford will not cover a T-45 with synthetic.

Another known problem with the T-45 is the bending of the shifting fork from hard shifts. It is highly recommended that people put an aftermarket shifter in with "positive stops". This stops the shifter from pulling to far and bending the fork.

You didn't say whether or not you had an aftermarket shifter. I guy I know was running the MAC short throw shifter for a couple of months and then he said he was having the same problem. Turns out his shifter bolts were loose, causing the chifter to pop out of gear. Just a thought...

You ain't driving it like you hate it then I don't have that kind of restraint. When I race I could rip that shifter right off and push the gas peddle throught the floor!

I notice that when I shift I get a loud thump (for lack of a better term, it just makes a loud engage like noise) sound sometimes. Other times I am able to shift smooth as silk.

I always thought I might be getting some kind of slippage or something.

Could what I am experiancing be part of the T-45 problem here?

I took it into Ford and they said they checked all the bolts and everything looked ok. Although they did ackknowledge the noise. They said they had no idea why it was making such a loud shift.

Is there some kind of offcial item from Ford I can point the dealer to, in hopes of getting this fixed?

Bruce

PS - My mechanic was going to put synth tran oil in as a fix, should I hold off on this?

Default synthetic ATF

I have inquired to my Ford contact concerning the tranny problems I have seen in the last day or so on this site. He works with the Tremec techs and will be getting back to me in a few days.

"Emery, the AMSOIL should definitely help this concern. Sounds strange thought. I have many other competitive and other Ford's in my test fleet and don't have that problem when cold. I'll see what I can find out. Thanks"

Dave Mann
Lubrication Specialist - Truck/Automotive Engineer

From what he told me (this also concerns the cold noise problem seen on another thread) Ford contracted through Mobile1 for use of their synthetic ATF (which isn't a pure synthetic). It has not perfromed to their expectations and they have gone back to a complete Petro products they have had sucess with in the past. He also advised me aganist Redline and Royal Purple. Reasons being they have good products for "Race only" applications but the "Daily Driver" applications are not even as good as a Mobile product.

Amsoil makes products that have been proven on the track and applied to us to offer better application for everyday use. They make the only products that are approved and push the envelope much past the requirements of Federal testing.

Any questions let me know or visit my site. Become an informed consumer, and dont just believe the guy who spends the most in their advertizing campaign!

Emery

P.S. Amsoil is currently negoating a contract with the ^.). #@&! to be a spokesman since he uses this product. Also the entire Unser family has used this product in their entire racing career as well as at home in cars, trucks, snowmobiles, and ATV's for years. Keep a look out!

What a crazy dilema. This guy runs the big local Ford performance shop. I figured he would know, but I don't want to kill my car. Specially since this might void my warranty.

Yep, your synchros inside the tranny are fubared...

Needs a rebuild or a new tranny.

Hopefully you're under warranty... or this will cost you about $2000 for a new tranny.
