Whats up guys? I have a question that may sound stupid. I bought a 2003 GT and the tech specs said it was 260 HP. I was reading an artical on a 2002 GT that was going to be modified. They wanted to dyno the car while it was still stock to get a baseline reading and they came up with 203 HP. To my understanding a 2002 comes out of the factory at 260 HP. Why is the HP lower now? Are the measuring the HP in a different way?

That must be way off, even if it was dynoed at the wheels a 5 speed wouldn't dyno that low, not even an auto would dyno that low. 99+ gts come with 260hp.
Ford (and other car manufacturers) measures horsepower at the fly wheel. Dynos measure horsepower after the power has moved through the drive-train and to the wheels. All cars have more horsepower at the fly wheel and less at the wheels.
But Luke is right, a stock 03 GT should not be pulling 203 HP, it should be more like 225 or so.

I'm just cool like that though ... They problaby tested an automatic. That's why the numbers are so low. If you don't hit the gas at the right rpm, your dyno numbers are also gonna read lower then they should. Some magazines ect. are idiots when it comes to dynoing. Also, if the dyno is not accurate, the only way it's going to help is they are gonna use it as a baseline for modifications.
Oh and I dynoed with an FIPK and 40 series flows welded in. 750-1000 miles on the motor.
Also the type dyno has a bearing on the outcome. A mustang dyno reads lower than a dynojet etc.....

I just seen a Stock Automatic 2000 GT with OEM air filter and silencer still on only pull 211. I was laughing, thinking wow, holy cow. A K&N filter was dropped in, silencer removed and it dyno'ed at 216. It truly picked up 5 horsepower just from taking the air silencer off and dropping in a K&N. The stock ones can dyno pretty low sometimes, depending on how lean or rich it comes from the factory.
There is also a difference in SAE HP ratings and STD HP ratings...dont forget that. STD always reads higher on the dyno. When those numbers are converted they drop.
