I was interested in buying a 98 cobra and the guy says it has 315 hp and runs 13.99 in the quarter mile i was just wondering what a stock 98 cobra runs in the quarter mile and how much hp it has? Also is it easy to soup up and make it a lot faster?
It is actually 305 horsepower, not 315. From what i have read in many magazines the quartermile times in many different magazines was listed as 13.9. It is fairly easy to customize and make quick. Exhaust and Intake can boost its' horsepower to around 330 or so. Plus you can do MUCH more to make them fast, that is just the first two mods people do performance wise.
yeah, venemouss is right about the 305 HP fact. And do NOT worry about the aftermarket parts for upping the performance of your cobra (if you get it). There is almost no end to what you can do to that thing. I hope you get it. good luck

The DOHC Cobra engine produces 305 horsepower. Ford claims that the 1998 will cover the 1/4 in 13.99 seconds. This may be a little conservitive. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords claim to have recorded 13.81 at 101.37 mph with a 98 convertable in full street trim. Removing the air silencer produced 13.61 at 102.39. Adding Nitro Drag Radials produced the best time of 13.33 at 103.06. They did mention that the 98's seem to be a little faster than the 96's or 97's due to a redesigned runner control assembly and new computer program. They also said that the 98's were probably producing 3 to 5 more horsepower, putting total output closer to 310 horsepower. When coupled with the fact that the 99's were 70 lbs hearvier, the 98's were as fast as the 99's most of the time. The solid rear end of the 98's also was a advantage in a drag race although the 99's independent suspension gave it the edge in cornering.
The 96-98 cobras can run anywhere from 13.0-13.9 stock. I have read about a few guys with stock 96's running 13.4's with theirs and a guy on the Corral has ran a 13.0 with his stock 98. You just have to launch above 3500 rpms to get a decent time.
