Exclamation SN95 Air Bag SRS 101

OK SO, i wanted to make this thread either sticky or just enough ppl to read it so that if EVER God forbid, you have an issue where u deploy ur bags.... u MAY be able to fix it without blowin ur face up...
over about 2 months worth of research and trying to find parts and asking junkyards, i have managed to find next to NOTHING for an air bag system for an SN95... BUT i just so happen to drive a 98 v6 to work everyday and have a 98 GT sittin in my garage getting a facelift
SO due to a lack of information on this i feel the need to share my findings of trading parts.... i have a brand new inspection sticker on my v6 car so i decided, lets rip out the entire air bag system minus the bags from the v6 car and put them in the GT.... ALL for my own education purposes... and now urs too
hears the overview of the whole story: red car is v6 cleared inspection and had NO air bag faults in the ENTIRE system... so it is all set good to go well as some of you know, i bought a black 98 GT for only 1300 bucks cuz the airbags deployed... i felt froggy considerin a nice one around here goes for about 6000 so i went and picked it up... NOW i have a 98 mustang with a GOOD air bag system and brand new inspection sticker and a 98 mustang with no inspection sticker and blown air bags but it has flames and a 4.6 AND a T45 five speed with black leather too cant turn that down so i proceed to take the air bag module out from under the dash... it is NOT directly under the radio... so if u read that on here, that information is WRONG it is a little blue plastic box that is BEHIND the radio and more so BEHIND the OBD II plug in port... cant miss it its the only turqoise blue box under there... ill take a pic if i can get my hands on the camera... anyway it has TWO plugs that plug into the module from the DRIVERS side of the car... the release clips are in the center of each connector on top *this took me about 30 min to figure out cuz the entire thing felt smooth and couldnt find a tab to release so i was really confused* SO you clearly make sure both battery cables are disconnected from both cars before doing this operation... (sorry figured that was common sense and forgot it in the beginning of the write up) disconnect the two connectors... another neat little trick is that all the air bag system components are held in with bolts that are all painted a funny colored green so if its not painted green, YOU DONT HAVE TO UNBOLT IT!! there are 3 bolts that hold down the blue module (this is of course if u need to take it out cuz urs is NFG) two GREEN bolts are on the drivers side and one GREEN bolt is on the passenger side... now, NOTE***** that u can RESET the airbag module... so dont believe a stealership telling you you MUST have a new one... you reset the module by, followin this procedure
1. pull little gray connector out from wiring harness under passenger side.
2. put 2 jumper wires with stripped ends on the only two terminals *i use speaker wires with a spade on one end and plain stripped on the other*
3. turn key to ON position and wait for the air bag light to flash ONCE, it MUST come on the initial time u turn the key on, then it will go out and come back and the first time it comes back QUICKLY touch both stripped ends of the jumper wires together to essentially cross both pins... *note: you CAN do this with a screwdriver between the terminals, i just prefer jumper wires cuz they are more consistent and less chances of blowing ur module*
4. WAIT with the jumpers touching for a little chime of a jingle to beep a few times at you, when that sound goes away IMMEDIATELY disconnect the two wires...
5. TA DA! air bag module system is RESET...

BUT KEEP IN MIND!!! if you have a bad crash sensor(we will address that part next) resetting ur system will NOT clear the code or issue...
you MUST have good crash sensors... the crash sensors are the black boxes mounted to the radiator support with the arrow pointing toward the nose of the car with wire loom coming off of them. the harness clip is very difficult to get to as it is way up in the fenderwell and u MUST pull it off the car to get the crash sensor OUT... pull them and wiggle from side to side til the little plastic clip comes out of the sheet metal and hangs freely... pull the two plugs apart being sure to depress the release clip... there are MORE of these little fender clips along the car... i think 2 more other than the ones directly on the plug, again release these and pull the wire loom outremove the two bolts holding the crash sensor down *should be an 8mm socket* and ur all set...
REPLACE ANY bad crash sensors either one... or ur air bag light will NEVER go away... used ones that are from an SN95 mustang with THREE wires inside the loom and on the plug will suffice as long as those sensors werent hit with large impact... and even if ONE sensor is bad, it does NOT mean the OTHER sensor is bad, so if u car gets hit on ONE side, that means you only need the crash sensor that was hit.... *this was my case, only the drivers side of the car hit something*
make sure you have new non-deployed air bags, good crash sensors and all properly reinstalled... ill have more info on the air bags themselves when i get to that point of replacing those tommorrow... replace ANY disturbed components turn the key to the ON position DONT START IT, and reset them with the procedure mentioned above... i let it set for like 5 min as a just in case... be careful dont put ur face in front of the bag just incase you have a bad fault somewhere... turn the key on and start it, the bags should NOT deploy and they should ALSO not yield an air bag light... SO if anyone out there has ambition to buy a project stang for a GREAT price cuz someone else doesnt want to fix air bags, this is ur guide to getting a 5000 dollar or MORE car for maybe 1000 bucks...

ill try to provide more information about the bags and include pictures as soon as i get a chance to take all of that... right now its dark outside lol i hope this write-up becomes a sticky or helps someone out somewhere down the road somehow, cuz i walked into this blindfolded with 2 cars to experiment with and see how everything goes....

always happy to help any questions feel free to ask or PM me either is fine

what do you mean by bad crash sensor like smashed or something wrong inside it... My car was only damaged in the lower radiator support I replaced the whole support and am getting ready to do airbags but it wont be cheap to do myself if they blow when I install them haha

have they blown yet?? what year is ur car?? and if the TOP half of your radiator support was damaged, where the front crash sensors actually MOUNT, you will need new ones... if NOT, if they are still perfectly straight and ur bags did NOT blow, dont worry you will be perfectly fine is your air bag light on??

if your light is still on when you do it all, check your fuses, i think its a red 10amp fuse that runs the air bag system, then after you do all that, if you have a stock radio, set the clock and 2 radio stations... dont ask me why lol but alldata tells you to do so, i did and, IT WORKED!! i got my air bags all set and i drive my stang daily if you have ANY questions at all, feel free to ask again on this thread, i just need some more info to really help you... and they prolly wont blow as long as you dont smack the sensors with a hammer with the battery hooked up

It is a 98 gt...Yes the airbags went off when it was wrecked but there is no visual damage to the sensors the upper half of the support was not damaged although i replaced the whole support rather than sectioning it... (set clock and stations) thats odd It has the mach system i dont know if it makes a dif or not... I am also considering making fiberglass dummy covers rather than replace the airbags but some states require the airbags be replaced so i'm leaning away from this. thanks for the info
