Default ticking noise getting worse cant pinpoint location

i am a cert tech but my car is tripping me out. first the ticking noise which sounded and still sounds like lifters were in the background and only in certain rpm's . with the accel pedal steady the car stumbles ever so lightly and sounds like its flooding, under wot the car runs excellent all gears no hesitation and ticking is probably drowned out. i have the biggest comp cams installed and i have there springs as well, all new timing components, i heard it might be rod knock but i have never heard rod knock that ticks like lifters.
the newest wierdness to all this is i pulled all the plugs , drivers side bank 1 all four plugs were fuel fouled all black, other bank all perfect, since this car does not have individual coil packs per cyl i cant see it being them, any kind of input would be great you know how it is with your own ride it sometimes is the hardest to figure out.. anyone elses i can usually diagnose it with no problem..

thanks

Hi there!!!
FIRST, check your oil to see if there's any fuel in it!! If so, I'd check your fuel pressure and regulator for malfunction............sounds as if you are getting much more fuel on one bank more than the other and causes could be a few!! On carburated engines it's usually crud under the shutoff (valve and seat) or float............fuel injection is usually regulators or ground to injectors, etc. that cause a flooding to the system!!!
Hope this helps get a start!!

Yep, check the injection system. Injectors can make a ticking noise of course...

Some basic questions: Another thought, what pistons are you running with those big cams? Is it possible that you are getting contact on that one bank? Did you degree the cams? Did you have any machine work on the heads? The block? What model mustang are you running?

i had a ticking noise like that, turned out to be the drive belt slaping over the pully.

i had a ticking noise similar to what you are describing time wise(i'm not sure what the lifter tick sounds like) as far as when you give it gas and such.... turns out mine was a bad catalytic converter, it just started ticking like crazy, i think i hit a speed bump with it or something
