Q: borla vs magnaflow catback?

i have borla xr-1 mufflers on a 99 gt with a bbk o/r x-pipe.i dont really like the sound though. my question is, does anyone think magnaflow would give me a deeper more race car like sound.im looking for it to sound a lot lounder than my brothers camaro ss with no catts, and slp loud mouth exhaust thanks.

Borla's are some of the most aggressive mufflers you can get. Your problem is that your brother's car has 1.1 more liters of displacement than your car. That is why his sounds louder and deeper. Headers will help but it's just about impossible to make your car sound louder and deeper than his.

I had Magnaflow cat-back for sometime now and all I can say is that I love it.I have had alot of compliments by company employees and they that it sounds deep not to loud but nice.I have notice that the exhaust sounds louder when i get on it and i love that.I cant help you with the Borlas and also you mentioned that the slowmaro has no cats that may have something to do with exhaust being louder.

ive heard a few mustangs louder than his ss i just dont know what exhaust there running.plus i have bbk headers also.

I think the mags will be deeper than ur borla's, i heard some Borla's on a stang and it sounded like a nascar or an exotic ferrari.. Sounds nice but i absolutly love my magnaflows..

whats the diff between magnaflows and magnapacks? im looking for a deaper more race like sound with my off road x pipe .the borla xr-1 mufflers i have just dont sound lound enough for me!

mags are not deep on a 4.6 unless you have an off road h pipe, i have a magnaflow catted x pipe, with magnaflow catback and ford racing headers and its a good mixture of a loud exhaust which is not annoying

thanks everyone that posted .heres what im doing i have the new borla stinger system on the way got it for 500.00 shipped .im also getting a magnaflow catback used for 150.00 plus shipping off a 03gt and i allready have a mac o/r h pipe and bbk o/r x-pipe so ill mix and match till i find what i like then sell everything else i have left over.

Fangs where did you get your Borla catback for 500 shipped? Could you post the link. I was looking into getting a Borla myself (P/N 14787).

a guy on ebay.ill sell it to you. i decided borla sucks ass i also have some xr-1 mufflers,a magnaflow cattback,bbk o/r x-pipe ,mac o/r h-pipe.all for sell all new less than an hour of testing on each i think its all raspy crap !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! going back to stock catted h pipe and ? .

Its like that cuz of the mid pipe.. Go with stock h-pipe and magnaflow catback..

Unless it is a older SS than this makes no sense. LS1 Camaro and Firebirds are actually kinda quiet. My brother has his exhaust running straight through no muffler and it really isn't all that loud. My friends stock GT with Flow mufflers is louder than his Trans Am. And he has plenty enough done to make it louder. I think its because he has no Cats. If you want a really loud Mustang get a cutout put on it.

I think that Magnaflow is a much better chocice than Borla, I am planning on removing my old flowmasters 40 series and replacing them with a magnaflow x-pipe and catbacks. It makes a really nice sound plus makes nice power.... Right now I've got the flowmasters, but they're not atached to the tailpipes, and boy, it makes a really, really, loud sound.... If I have my windows closed it can be pretty annoying, but I just love the sound of a loud mustang....

A friend of mine has an 00 LS1 with Borla XR-1's and he has about the loudest exhaust I've ever heard. The Earth shakes when he floors it! It's even louder since he added his longtubes, LS-6 intake, and cam.

I think what it all comes down to is a person's personal opinion. To one person might be raspy and disgusting to another may be deep and unique. So i think that you really cant ask the question of what it sounds like unless you hear it for yourself. For instance some of you do not like the borla, i have a borla cat back on my cobra, and yes although it is a cobra and may sound different, i personally think sounds very good. Also the raspy-ness i believe comes more from the x pipe than the mufflers themselves, in these cases there are many variables that must be controlled.
