Default 2000 Mustang GT Should I replace the timing Belt?

So i just bought this car....... and my mechanich is telling me that i should replace the timing chain.... it has a 130,000miles. Im ;going to put $1000.00 worth of performance upgrades.... should i do the timing chain?? or he just want to get some money out of me?

What is the recomended time or miles to replace the chain???

Might not be a bad idea. If the chain jumps you could do some serious internal damage.

Its not a bad idea to replace it, just make sure he's done it before, it can be a bit tricky and its pretty common to get one bank off a tooth. You may be able to just replace the tensioners depending on the condition of the chains.

+1, with 130K miles, probably would be a good idea. It's some what involved but won't be to bad if your up on your mechanical skills.

It depends, you should see if the tensioners show signs of wear, I pulled the timing cover off an 03GT yesterday to put some Comp Cams in and they were worn almost through the plastic to bare metal!
For what it's worth when my motor was rebuilt at 59K I used the stock chains, they looked perfect!

Where do i buy a new timing chain set? should i call the dealer to get the OEM or should i buy any aftermarket?
