Default What drag radials for 98 cobra and size?

I am about to get a set of drag radials for my 98 s/c cobra. What size is recommended for the stock rims (17) that wont rub or give me any issues for a good price. Also, what tire to go with? I have heard the ET Streets hook good at the track but isn't a good street tire and that the 555r is good on the street but bad at the track. I though about the Toyo drag radial.

The only radials ive had so far was BFGoodrich and Hoosiers, both in 15's. The hoosiers were great but they was also 16.5 wide and on a 4 linked Mustang ll. The BFG's were 325's and on my stock suspension ford pickup and worked better than the big Hoosiers. Im not sure what they have for a 17 inch wheel though.

bfg makes some good ones in a 17. if you have an 8 inch wheel, go with a 275/40-17. if it's a 10 inch wheel go with the biggest size you can (315 i think)

You can go with 315/35/17's on a 10.5" wheel if you roll the fender lips. Without rolling them on the '98, especially with the BFGs, which run a bit wider than most, you'll put grooves in the sidewall when you launch.

Ya I like the way the 315's look but like you said I think they will hit the lip. I think my rims are 8 inch too. I seen a cobra with a set of 270/40 on it and it looked good. I am thinking about nittos because of streetability and so I dont break stuff orr the line but then again I dont want to spin too bad.

Just like you said...The MT ET Streets are awesome but not so great driving in the rain. I've used nitto's in the past and on my Cobra now. The Nitto DR's are decent at the track but pretty good on the street and not to bad in the rain(though i did try to pass someone on a road doing 45mph and once the boost hit 5psi, my tires spun till i let off a little. This was in 6th gear and not trying to get around him fast either.
The 275's will work great for your car. also you can do what i do. I have a set of 99 Cobra rims at the house that have my track DR's on them but i need to buy some new MT's though.

Thats what I really want to do, get an extra set of rims, that way it is still streetable. I think I am going to go with the 275/40s and maybe try the new Toyo drag radial. Anyone tried these? Also I have some new 42# injectors and new Lighting MAF for sale in the classifieds, pass the word!

I have heard tons of great things about the Toyos, priced like the Nittos with grip like the M/Ts.

And if you're buying drag radials based on rain performance, that's like buying a Mustang, and using it off-road. Drag Radials are not, and should not be used in the rain ever.

I agree. My mustangs I have had in the past didnt do good in the rain at all but thats not what i bought them for. I have a 4 door car for that. I wish I would have bought the 99-04 body style instead of my 98, they look good. I wanted the 32v though and have money left to put a blower on it so I bought the sn95 body style. Of course my cobra wasn't cheap for an 11 year old car but it only had 89,000 miles. Anyhow, I have my 60lb injectors and SCT MAF on the way so then I have to get it tuned and I will be ready for the tires.
