So I've had my 01 for a few months now, and don't really know what the previous owner did so I want to run through all the standard service.. it's only got 35k miles on it, but being an 01 I'm sure some other stuff needs to be done..
Just wondering what I need to do to make sure the transmission is in great shape? How hard is it to change the fluid myself and what else needs to be looked at? (it's a 5 speed manual.)
Also wondering about fuel filter, or other items I should be concerned with? I've done the oil, just replaced the shocks/struts, brakes were checked when I got it, won't touch those till have the money to upgrade those...
changing the tranny fluid is pretty simple. Jack the car up and put it on jack stands, ensuring the car is level so you can accurately measure the fluid once you put new fluid in. The biggest PITA about it is getting the fluid into the fill hole. Get one of those fluid pumps (about $15 or so...) or you can take the shift lever out of the transmission and pour the fluid into the tranny that way. That might be more time consuming, but less frustrating.
The shift lever just bolts in, I'd order a short-throw shifter and replace the stock one while you're doing it. It's much better feeling than the stock one.
Fill the fluid 'till it's level with the fill hole, and make sure you get the right type of fluid, obviously. Automatic Transmission fluid...despite the fact that it's a manual transmission...whichever brand floats your boat.

auto fluid?.. Any issues running a synthetic fluid despite not knowing whats' in there now??
Oh yeah I've already got a steeda shifter.. thanks for the input... wondering what's the big deal with Jiffy Lube etc... charging a ton to do the work.. but considering they charge $80 for a full syn oil change I guess I should have know it would be simple..

remember jiffy lube changes oil in an jiffy, but they take your money in an instant, do it your self save money, i stand aginst a political person, and instant places

i have yet to find some one else who when changing their oil ( every 2000 miles or when they get bored ) details the under side of their car.
X-C April 2010,Heads, Cam,Internals April 2011, or blown engine, witch ever comes first.
The transformation has begun!

So I went to Autozoneto get Transmission Fluid, my owner's manual says 3.3L of MERCRON for my T-45... but I didn't see any MERCRON, the guy looked up my car in the computer and now SKUs showed up? I got Mobil 1 ATF, it said on the back of the bottle Ford MERCRON but not CVT..
I want a good fluid, and alway been happy with mobil 1 products, but is there something else I should be looking at?
you should be fine with that. a lot of people seem to swear by royal purple. i'm going to give it a go once i get a short throw.

Time to make the pony ride some rails
