Default Cold weather causing problems!

A buddy and I were having a conversation about our mustangs; I own a 96 GT and him a 04 GT. This morning he was sitting at a stop light for a while and his idle started to fluctuate between 650 – 1000; it wouldn’t hang there it would just back and forth when he had his defrost and his heater on he thought because it was so cold outside that it was causing his idle to fluctuate. For some reason he will no longer drive his stang around when it’s too cold outside, he believes for some reason that because it’s so cold outside that his intake manifold will crack. I just wanted to see what you guys thought of that statement and too see if there is any truth behind that. Oh, and yes, he is running a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze.
