Default ticking and loss of power when reved over 4k what could it be?

a few weeks ago i think that i overreved the motor a little high and it lost some power(maybe a cyl or 2) and it was ticking well i kept driving and the power came back on and the ticking stopped. well now i went to take it to maybe 4000 and again it lost power for a minute and ticked for maybe 5 minutes then all was well again, I have ran compression test and have 150 on all 8. all plugs are good and tight. not sure what else to do. i pulled covers valve covers off and it looked ok. the coils and boots are in good shape as far as i can tell. this is a 2001 gt

i'm sure you tried it but the first think i think of with ticking is cracked manifold or exhaust leak. i know the 99-04 6's are notorious for cracking those passenger side manifolds.

Didn't I answer this over at a different forum? A coil is going to be the most likely explanation. The ticking you are hearing is it arcing against the cylinder wall. It's a common problem on these cars.

Exhaust leaks and lash adjusters aren't going to cause power loss. You will get your ticking yes, but no loss in power.
