Default Newbie gear question

Im thinking about getting 4.10's for my stang and have a few questions. Do the gears add anymore tourque and if so will my car be damaged in anyway running these gears on stock suspention? Would it be wise to get suspention mods and if so what mods would be a nice combination? And for those that have 4.10's what RPM and gear are you in when you trap @ 1/4.My car will currently redline at 90 MPH in third gear and im just getting into 4th gear at the end of the 1/4. Will these gears put me in 4th well before the finish line and at what MPH will the car redline in 3rd with these gears? Thanks for any info.

Gears Multiply torque. Example first gear 3.35 ratio x 4.10 gear ratio x max torque 302 = 4147 total torque. A 3.27 ratio = 3308 in the same gear. A gain of 838 lbs for the 4.10s or about 21%. Gears help the other parts in some ways they dont have to work as hard to produce the same ammount of work. In other ways your engine revs more your tranny spins faster ext.

yeah without gears my 98gt would make like 289 pounds of torque, gears multiply your torque, the lower the ratio the more the torque.

With our gts and out 6k redline 4.10s are the best for drag racing i've heard, i beleve it puts us at our peak rpm as we cross the finish line, if you are runnin a supercharger i'm not sure..

Try Tech articles at the top of this page then go to calculators. You can figure any speed and rpm. I am at 5100 rpm in the traps at 94 mph.
