Default install cost question

Well, I dont have the tools of knowledge to replace my stock 3.27's with a set of 3.73's. I've had the gears for a while now just staring me in the face and I finally decided to call and get an estimate for installation. They quoted me $250 plus parts (by parts i guess he means shims and other extras). All I have is the gears, and my question is; how much should they charge me for a shim kit, and what other parts are they gonna hit me for?
Thanks, just trying to make sure that my lack of knowledge for the rear-end doesnt empty my pocket...

Thanks again,
Scott

Probably just a few shims, a gasket, seal and friction modifier. He'll probably charge you 300 total the way mechanics are. The total in parts is only probably 25 bucks if that. Just make sure the guy has done them before.

Well, I keep seeing low cost for the rear ends. My 4:10s with tax and everything parts and labor was 647.00. (ouch). But I am enjoying the gears. Hope this might help alittle. BTW, this is NJ prices.

For mine it will be $430. That's for gears, oil, etc.

Thanks guy, I dropped off the car today and yes he has done this kind of work before. he quoted me at 250 plus extra parts which i am assuming shims, oil, etc. and i hope driftpin is right and hopefully it wont be anymore that 300 max. I told him to call me if there was anything that would up the price more that a few dollars. They seem to be good guys, and they were referred to me buy Ford so that cant be all bad. Anyways thanks for the info so i know what to expect, its been helpful. ill post the total when all said and done tommorrow...

Thanks,
Scott

Asked the guys at the Ford place here how much for install (not including gears) . They said $406.00. There is another place I can try to ask but I guess anything is better than that.

We do them out of our garage for $300 installed...parts and labor. It only takes a couple hours. Most shops will charge right around $200 for installation. The gears should've came with a package of shims already. Also, DPM and GEF Racing both sell FRPP gear sets for $149.

I guess this is just the gears absent the odds and ends. Any idea what brand these gears are?

They are just the gears, no shims...but you or the place you get them installed at can get them for like $5.95 or somewhere in that price range.
They are Ford 3.73 gears for an 8.8 inch rear

You can PM me or email me for more info and a pic: Scootre@lunarmagazine.com
