Default Good Tire And Wheel Combo?

Hi, just got a set of 17 by 10.5 inch bullit wheels for my car and i got a pair of nitto drag radials to go with it...i was told by a few guys that the wider you go, the better the traction (hence the drag radials) is taht true on the track?

Yes it is, the contact area of the tire is proportional to the width.

In terms of wheels I dont know, but I do know that the best kind of tires available for a GT Mustang are Michlen Pilot Sport for $1,100. They are the COOOOLEST

right, im not spending 1,100 dollars on tires...i paid 179 each for the drag radials, and they should last bout 10,000 miles...just enough for one summer of driving

Are you going with 285-40/17 for the rears?? I have that size on 10.5" Cobra R's but they are the Nitto 555 Extreme II's for road racing. Love em. But to answer your question the more surface area you can dispurse energy across the better. Also another thing to consider is the bigger in diameter the more suface that is in contact as well too.

you are very true to an extent. You definetly do not go with too big of a tire for the rim though. If you go with too big of a tire it will bubble up and have less contact area, wearing the middle of the tire but not the outsides. Just ask your tire shop what the biggest size tire you can fit on the wheel safely is. It should be a 315. Good luck with your steamrollers!

im going with the biggest size nitto offers.315/35 R17. my rim is 10.5 inches wide and it falls right in the middle of the recommended rim width size. He he, nitto manual sayz that the actual width of the tire is 12.4 inches...hehe, i hope it will not rub....
