How hard would it be to just exchange my 1998 4.6 SOHC with a newer year 4.6 SOHC ? I would like to do this rather then the head swap. The reason for this is that I want to be able to add a blower/supercharger. Can I use my existing wiring harness or will I need a new one? What about the computer? My car came with a CLU2 computer in it. Any info would be much appreciated.
I have a 1998 Mustang GT 4.6L 5 speed.

I have a 98 GT with a 2000 engine, blower, yada yada, and bla bla. You can use your existing wiring harness and computer. Also, you will need your coil packs as well. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask... I did all this stuff myself in my garage.

I honestly don't remember how much I paid for the engine to be honest. I would think you could get a nice low-mileage 2000 engine for a decent price though (around $1500 or so?) Look at my gallery, there are a pretty good amount of pics there.
Thanks for the info 1Bad. I just got a quote from the Ford dealership that I work for, (We have Ford and Mercedes), and my price for a drop in 2001 4.6l SOHC is around $2600-2700. That includes everything. Water pump, intake, and all the gaskets. They said all I have to do is pull my old engine and drop the 2001 in it's place. Is it really that simple?
I wish I had the money to go the route you went with the Bullitt intake, but I can't afford that right now.
If I need more info I will try to contact you. Thanks

That price does not include install. That is just the drop in componants. Engine, waterpump, intake, and gaskets. More or less kinda like a crate motor, only not with as much HP.
If the 2000 engine is better then the 99,01-04 engines then I will go with that. It is the same price for all those years.

Check out stangparts.com, they usually have some decent deals and the are fast with shipping. They got one 2000 on there right now for $1750. Hope it works out for you. They have coil packs too.

The difference is Windsor block vs. Romeo block. But it has nothing to do with the year of car. I have a 2002 with a Windsor engine. They started phasing out the Windsor block in 2000-2001, and went souly to Romeo blocks because they were cheaper to produce. The Windsor has a thicker casting and a stronger main cap design. I can't find the website about it, but it's the way the main caps are bolted on that makes the Winsdor block much stronger on the bottom end. My car was one of the first batches built (October, 2001), so I'm assuming they just used up all the Windsors they had left. It's very rare to find any stang over 2001 today with a Windsor block, but there are some. Check the VIN number. It should tell you. If you can find a Windsor block, get it!!
