Default 1st gear damage by pushing?

Can 1st gear be damaged if a car gets pushed from the front by a careless person. My car was parked and in first gear when a lady decided her SUV should get up and personal with my hood. The hood is now slightly misaligned.
Since the lady parked on my car thou... my 1st gear has been crappy. Sometimes the gear grinds when I try to shift into it at the light, or it crunches into gear, or it goes in fine but pops out of gear when I start to take off from the line. The only time I can get into 1st gear without issues is if I first shift into 2nd and then into 1st. Same thing happens with reverse but not as severe. It does not pop out of gear but it will try to grind. This is shifting into 1st and reverse at a complete stand still, not in motion at all. I didnt have this problem untill the incident.

I have been using 2nd gear to take off because 1st gear is so annoying to use.

I do using the parking brake too, and typically that is applied after I turn the engine off. The car is normally already in gear with my foot on the clutch.

It could have stressed the transmission a little bit by trying to move the motor over slowly when it was hit... But I honestly doubt it. This is my 'opinion" though.

Yes it could have damaged the gear tooth or other components.
