hey whats up everyone..i had a 90 gt like a year ago but the tranny went and some asshole hit my car and took off and with my lack of fundage i sold it..but now im lookin into stangs again,dont get me wrong i like the 5.0's alot but i want something newer.im lookin into 98's or 99's.i dont know anything about ther 4.6's can somebody give me a break down on it..they have overhead cams so im guessin they can rev a bit higher but somebody inform me.o yeah and how are the trannys i know the t-5's arent the greatest from my own expieriance.thanks

dont get 96-98, they have npi heads intake and cams and dont flow well. If you are gonna get a 4.6 go with 99+. The 4.6's, 2 kinds, single over head cam, and double over head cam. DOHC is for the cobra, sohc is for the gt. So if your gonna get a 4.6 make sure it is 99+

listen to the 97 guy telling everyone not to get the 96-98..lol..hey 98 have 225 horses!!! j/k..yeah i had the chance to get a 99 and 5 speed but it was a bit more on insurance, plus i like the look of the 98 much better

not to hate on the 96/98 but they are slow unless u have lots of money to spend, i have a 00 gt and they are much better, and about the tranny u should go with the 01 and up gt's or cobras cause they got the tremec tranny much better then mine t45. It sucks that i bought mine new in june of 2000 and the 01 gt's came with a better tranny, cause i had many problems with it.

haha, i am not hating, just trying to steer him in the right direction. I like the look of the 96-98 better. But if he wants to hang wit the big boys it is gonna cost him with a 96-98, if he gets a 99+ he could spend alot less and get better results. SOrry to b disin the 96-98's like that.

They changed the tranny in mid 01... They also changed to the smoked headlights in 01. There are a few minor differences you might wanna look at. I would definitly take a 99 over a 98, unless it was a cobra.

about the 01 trannys is there a quick way to figure weather or not it has a tremec.i kinda like the 01's look more myself.whats the horsepower and torque on the 99 and up 4.6's?? and what does it run in the 1/4??thanks for all your help.

99+ have 260 hp, 302 ft/lbs. People have had a lot of problems with the new 3650. I think a 99 or 00 T-45 would hold up much better. The later T-45's have stronger components than the early T-45 and the newer 3650 still has some bugs to be worked out. A 96-98 car would be a good choice if you are willing to do a headswap.

remember u only need better cams on the 99-up gt's to produced more power and torque, and it's less money than to buy a 98 and do the head swap and u are going to need intake swap too. I think the 99-up are muck easier to fixed up on power than the 96-98.

Whenever Ford puts in a new manual tranny, they always claim it's better but for the first few years they end up working bugs out of it. The T-45's had problems at first but by 00, they were fixed and many internal parts had been made stronger or upgraded from the 96-98 T-45's. Same goes for the 3650. Right now, it is having some problems but the ones coming in the 05 Stang should be much better than the current ones.

the 99-00 4.6's use the Windsor blocks where as the 01-04's use the Romeo blocks. Thats another small difference in the years even after 99
