Some posts have suggested the MAC CAI but from experience selling used parts in the past, I would stay away from them. I don't know why they do this, but almost evey used MAC CAI I got in had a lot of corrosion and oxidation on the inside, but not visible on the outside. It probably won't show up for a year or two. If you've got an older MAC, take it off the car and look inside. The BBK 's didn't seem to corrode like that. I'm not recommending any brand but I thought I would pass the info along.
I've had the MAC kit since October of 2002 and when I switched it over from my '03 to my '04 I didn't see any corrosion on the inside. If there is any corrosion, it shouldn't be more than a quick job with a dremel and a wire brush attachment from being removed.

I own a 2000 gt I put a c &l maf kit cold air and plenum w/75mm throttle body.I did not think that I would have had as big of a difference as I did.but i was blown away. One of the reasons I put a c & l is because all I had to buy was a sample tube in order to change injector sizes.Witch came in handy for the #24 injectors I just put in.I would suggest C & L if you plan on doing other future mods in the furture besides supercharging or turbo set ups.
So based on all this wealth of knowledge I just received...(thank you all)...I decided to go with a name I feel I can trust more and wont have to remove when I get my baby smogged...K&N...
Now I ask this...what type of a sound difference does it make? This will be the first mod I'll do to the car so please no references to headers and exhaust which I know I'll do later as soon as I save up the cash. Gracias
You'll notice a crisper throttle response for sure. Not much more than 5-10 HP, if that. But to me the throttle response was enough. It'll also increase the effectiveness of any future induction mods you make.

I like my BBK CAI. Its chrome but it draws air out of the fender. Where I live that makes a big difference. Here in the middle of the Mojave Dersert my elevation is 2500 feet and the last few weeks its been over 110 degrees F. That really degrades the performance. So any help on getting cooler intake air is good.

I'm brand new here and did read the thread on the CAI question. However, other than flow master exhaust from cat back and K&N air filter and some plug changes haven't done a lot yet to my 2001 automatic GT Convertible.
One site I checked indicates(implies) on my 4.6 Mustang that I will get 14-16 HP improvement and 22 lb ft Torque. Does this sound right? Also, will gas mileage suffer or improve by putting on the K&N CAI Generation II? MPG isn't big deal as I dirve the car on weekends and mostly summer.
That's the kind of hard data I like to see! Thanks for that info Twitch. I think the rule of thumb is 1hp for every 10F cooler the intake charge is, good work. I bet it would get even better if you replaced that upper intake tube with something smoother.

I've made a graphic of the IAT and the RPM of both cars on the 1/4 mile run. As you can see, the CAI has much lower temperature. Both IAT will match at 66F at around 5200-5300rpm in 3rd gear meaning about close to 100mph. So, at high speed, ghetto CAI and the K&N FIPK have the same IAT thus they are equal at that speed.
Also, if you look closely, the other dirver can shift faster than me

Wow, all that from a bent plastic pipe? I have always heard that you don't want a bend before the MAF for terbulance. How come it worked ok for this case? interesting!
