will 3.73's affect gas mileage? how much?

using my 2003 GT as a daily driver right now, and gas mileage is certainly a concern....espescially in california, where they rape you on the gas....

i want the gears to get that "seat of the pants" feeling everybody talks about, but i don't want to sacrifice gas mileage at this point. certainly won't be a concern when i purchase a new daily driver this winter or next spring, but just curious if it adversly affects mileage? thannks in advance :thumbsup

Of course it will.....because u wont be able to keep ur foot out of the gas!!! LOL It shouldnt matter that much fron what i hear, ur going from 3.27 to 3.73 so its not a HUGE increase, only way i see it is being on the highway if ur going speeds way higher then the speed limit it might affect it then, u should be ok, i want to go 4.10 but mine is an auto so only 4 speeds, so i dunno, i might go 3.73

Go the 3.73's, mileage may even get better as engine is more in efficient operating range. Do you have K&N filter, checked your tire pressure lately, synthetic engine oil? - it all adds up.

I'm back - 2001 Cobra convertible, 84K miles, acquired 12/10/11; just beginning to figure out what it needs to be right (beyond the leaky top..) - top to be done 12/27. Changed the coolant, trans. fluid, oil, differential fluid. Replaced the LF wheel hub assy. Ordered a pair of Blisteins for the rear. Next up: full-length subs, strut brace, stainless brake hoses F&R and a bunch of FatMat.

just turned 20k on the clock....been using motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend as i can't find a mobil one in 5w-20. seems like a lot of fellas are using mobil one in 5w-30? haven't decided yet. don't want to go with redline or royal purple....i don't want to have trouble finding oil.

i haven't done the intake yet....but i will probably go with the K&N FIPK when i get the funds....have some medical bills at the moment but the gears, intake and steeda shift kit are the first things i'm going to change :thumbsup after that, maybe a larger throttle body etc....i don't like the throws with the stock shifter, 2nd into 3rd is a pita sometimes, you have to be right on the money with the shift or your screwed

car already has a basani exhaust and has been lowered a bit (bought it with 17k on the ticker)

a little off topic, but I loved the royal purple I had in my car for 2500 miles. Everything was great, and I've tried alot of different synthetics. I'm well on my way to becomming a conossieur in such matters.
In terms of gears, one of the best arguments I read when I first joined the forum was that with the higher gears, you car has an easier time accelerating, and will therefore use less fuel. Your ECU will run a little leaner under NORMAL driving conditions since it requires less effort to accelerate. I can't state the argument as well as whoever I heard it from, but I'm sure he will voice up soon. good luck, and go with the 3.73's. I seriously doubt you will regret it.

This a little off topic. I have researched the 5w-30 vs. 5w-20 oil. You can without a doubt use the 5w-30 without any problem. In fact, if you go to your local Ford dealer to get you oil change they will most likely use the 5w-30. I very loyal to Mobil 1 full synthetic. I have used it on all my mustangs. They get a few hp gain, run cooler, and gets better gas mileage. The added benefit is the savings in less frequent oil changes and less engine wear. The best price here in ca on Mobil 1 is Walmart.

As someone else here said....Just do it
