Default misfire and stalling with a/c on

here is a question from a friend who is stumped with his 96 GT.

Any suggestions for him?

Hello, I normally don’t post here (3.8 guy), but am browsing the entire forums……

Has he replaced his plugs and wires? That may be a good start, and then check to make sure the cylinders are getting spark…. If not, you know what needs to be replaced…..

i have already recommended to him to check his plugs, wires, egr valve and also if this has been happening since maybe his last fill up with gas. just in case he got some bad gas or something. Now I'm not sure if he has pulled codes or done any of the work suggested yet.

Tell him to check the Fuel filter too and have codes scanned.

pure stock. even stil has the air silencer installed and paper filter. It's his daily driver.

Almost sounds like a timing problem. Maybe the chain is stretched or has jumped a tooth. Or it may be an ECU problem.

Sounds a little like my problem, but I have a GT Mustang 2006 5-spd 2 months old. I just recently turned my air conditioning on. After about 15 minute, the car is stalling, loosing power, Check Engine Light comes on. If I turn the air off, she still acts strange, CEL on, varible idle from 200-1000 rpms, but she doesn't stall. Every thing is stock. Similar problem as Steve?

That's very interesting. However in your case I would do nothing except take it straight to the dealer for troubleshooting and repair work.
