Default 03 GT Auto to Manual swap??

Hi to all of you... I am a new member and could use some insight into this process. I have been driving an automatic for some time now but am getting to the point where I am thinking of converting this car to a manual but I have no clue about the cost, ways to cut the cost, pros/cons, or where to get started. This is my first Mustang and I am hoping to upgrade. I would not be doing any of this myself. Any information or suggestions on places in St. Louis that do this kind of work would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I did the swap with the help of a couple of friends on my 2k.

Parts could be as low as $1500. On a 99+ a computer swap or a chip is necessary also. So that is another couple of hundred, more if you swap the computer.

Labor would be outrageous. I wouldn't even begin to guess shop prices on that job.

If you want a manual just trade yours in. It will be cheaper.

Lonegunman is correct, you'll get KILLED in labor cost...because they're not JUST swapping the transmission, they're adding/replacing a plethora of other components.
I wouldn't even consider a swap like that...its a waste of money unless you plan to keep the car for a long time, because you're devaluing it.

An automatic transmission (as you know) is more expensive to purchase...and the car would be worth much less to a dealer when trading it in once they learn (via the VIN number) that the car has been altered from its original configuration...because it will be harder for them to sell. If you sell the car to an individual, it may not be a problem...but I wouldn't buy a car that had been altered like this unless it was a SMOKIN deal and the work was done by someone I knew by reputation!!

Take the cash and put it on a down payment for a new '05 with a factory manual transmission!! Or get yourself a low mileage pre-owned Mustang...I'm sure there will be more than a few people who want to trade up to the new body style, or you might get a really good deal on an '04 if they have one left with a manual tranny...I know I did!!

Just my humble opinion.

The swap is a piece of cake if u have a weekend, I converted my 96 to manual last year. I am converting it back to auto and have every part you need. The only thing that is wrong with mine is I took it in had the tranny rebuilt from front to back, then 2 days later it stuck in reverse. I could have paid the 100 to get it fixed but went with a PA Automotve built 4r70w instead. Also note that I ran mine with the auto computer since day one with no problems other than the OD light. I went with all aftermarket parts and the 11" clutch and flywheel on mine. However parts will not cost you anywhere near 1500 if u shop around. i will not post my price for mine on hear but if your interested in it. I can send u a prts list with everything and pics. Email is Msanderson72@msn.com
