The night before I left to go overseas to the desert I was driving my car to a buddys house to cover it up. Well on the way I hear a loud ass pop under the hood, so I pop the hood to look and see and all the belts where fine. It was making a really loud hissing noise almost sounded like an exhaust leak because it was back behind the intake manifold. I also think it might be a valve not closing. But it is ideling extremely rough and making that noise. I have a warranty I just hope it will cover it. Just want to know what you guys might think it is. Thanks.
#5 spark plug blow out maybe. I've heard several others talk about this but I have not had it happen to me. Good luck!

From what I've heard you need a new head on that side.

Well the most serious damage is the plug blowing out. As long as nothing falls into that cylinder then not much else should be hurt. It's caused by the head casting not having much material in the threads of that plugs. Over time it just blows out. I'm not sure if it's covered under the 36 month 36K mile warranty or if there's been a silent recall issued for it. This seems to be a known defect with our motors though.

I would take it to Ford and throw a fit about it and see what happens. If not it will be a costly repair. Good luck!

The cylinder head will be covered under warranty if the is less the 36,000 miles and in service date is under 36 months. If you have a powertrain or premium warranty then it will be covered. Ford as of Friday still hasn't aknowledge they have a fault with the heads. Even though they redesigned they head for 2003 and up engines. I work at a Ford dealer and so far we (I) haven't seen any Mustangs come in with the spark plug blown out, a bunch of Lightnings and some F150/Expeditions. The problem seems to be mainly with engine with a "COP" (CoilOnPlug) ignition system. silverponygt since your in the military service take your car in to the local dealer and let them know that your going overseas. If they have any american pride they will fix the engine even if its not under warranty. For those of you who haven't had the problem as of yet, remove a spark plug and check the number of threads. If it has more than 5 threads and the threads go all the way the tapered part of the plug you should be ok. If it doesn't then remove all of the plugs, apply a small amount of antiseize to the plug and reinstall them. Tightened until the plug seats against the head and then turn another 1/8 of a turn. I've never had one blow out after following this procedure.
Well I will tell you they gave me a very hard time I had roughly 35485 miles and they started telling me it appeared that the bolts around the plugs looked as if they had been removed and my fuel system had been m,essed with they also questioned the lowering of my car but finally they did replace it it took three days and I got a free rental only because I caught them in a bold face lie. very bad experience (Capital Ford Raleigh NC) ,also I heard a tapping noise days before, enough to draw my attention I called the Ford dealer and set up a day to have them look at the car well that very same day is when it blew I drove the car about 7 miles with the plug out and drove it another 2 miles the next day to the dealership. I have never delt with a dealership after modding a car and they were all over my car to find a reason not to cover it under warranty
Well I am overseas right now and the car is sitting covered at a buddys house. My car has 85,000 miles on it But I have a powertrain warranty on the car. I guess I will just have to see what happens when I get back stateside.
