The list is pretty solid. If you want to save a few $$ to spend on something else then skip the cold air. A K&N drop in filter, remove the rubber snorkel thing from the airbox, and remove the air silencer screen from in between the airbox and MAF will accomplish the same thing. Only difference is it won't look as pretty.

And instead of the shift kit, Google something called "J-Mod". I don't have an auto trans so I haven't done a ton of research on it, but I do know that it is hands down one of the best mods you can do for your 4R70W trans and was also designed by the same exact guy that designed and engineered the trans for Ford.

nikleondis,

Great build list, this set up will really wake up your GT'!

Let me know if I can be of any assistance as you get closer to making your purchase!

I have a few questions regarding the tuner.

Is the device still married to your friends car?

These device's are VIN locked, meaning they can only be used on ONE car at a time.

If you would like more details on this, Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 10AM-3PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

Thanks for choosing to shop with AM, we greatly appreciate the loyalty & business!

i looked up the j-mod on google theres there's alot of junk out there but not much usefull info. from what i was able to put together from reading differant pages(nothing reliable tho) is that it removes certain springs and you drill bigger holes in the seperator plate allowing fluid to move more quickly making shifts faster and firmer. correct me if thats not accurate. i am attempting todo most of the work myself since i care about the workmanship more than an average mechanic and knowledge is golden and i believe the shift kit is an easier install and for 80 bucks you cant beat it. ive also decided that ide let the ratchet shifter go. i figure if the shift kit makes it shift fast than 90% of most manual drivers then putting in the ratchet shifter, as cool as it is, will slow it back down since it has to wait for me to manually shift it.

Thanks AM for the post. i wish u made parts for my thunderbird supercoup, would of made life a whole lot easier. I was not aware that the turner is VIN specific. I have a question tho. i see on your site that the bama tuners come with 3 free custom tunes, does that mean the first 3 are free and the rest i half to pay for?

Forget the pullies , shift kit , shifter , muffler and apply the funds to a nice catback , you won't be sorry . You'll need a tuner for the gear change and it will also look after the tranny shift points and firmness . The cai and throttle plenum will look cool and give modest gains . If you hate the look of the auto shifter you can do something like i did and change the shift knob and add a leather boot over the stock shift handle/bezel .

The bama tunes are free for life. You do not have to pay for additional tunes. The first three are street, performance, and race. Those three should remain with the same names, but as you do more mods you tell them and they send you a current tune in those three varieties based on the mods you do so you can get all you can out of your car. Hope that answers the question and isn't confusing.

yllrgt i dont see what facts you have to back up your comment of a catback exhaust being better than to replace overdrive pullies, shift kit, and shifter. how much horsepower gained depends highly on the design of your factory exhaust system and the quality of the catalytic converters in front of it. If the stock catalytic converters are fairly restrictive, then less power can be gained from a cat back exhaust system. from looking at catback systems online the "new" pipes are 2.5 inch(which already come on the gt), 3" tips(cosmetic) and the less restrictive mufflers( which gives it that great exhaust note and as in the name, are less restrictive). so in my mind $75 less restrictive mufflers beats a $500+ exhaust system when all i really need is the mufflers. Beyond that, gaining 10hp cant compete with constant perfect shifts(priceless) that you will gain from the shift kit that also lengthens the life of your transmission(amazing bang for the buck for $80) correct me if im wrong.

I agree with above on getting the catback instead of just mufflers, it does make a difference.

The J mod is great for auto's, its cheap, easy, and it works. I haven't had much luck with shift kits on these cars.

You probably can't use your friend's tuner, unless he returns his car to stock and keeps it that way, the tuner can only be used to tune or alter one vehicle, until it is used to return the first vehicle to stock.

I would add subframe connectors to your list, a very important and oft overlooked mod.

If you can I would also think about lowering the car, it makes a huge difference for the better in the way it looks and feels.

When you're starting out modding the car its best to go with things that you'll enjoy the most. Things like gears, shifter, tuning, and springs are big impact items, you feel the difference all the time you drive, gets you more out of your money.

Do you have good tires & suspension to utilize the extra power and torque?

i havent looked into suspension yet, but i know they will be needed. thats just something that will half to come futher down the line when i have more money to put into it. i am looking at tires tho. i like the nitto 555 but they wont last more than a few months with good behavior so that a no-go. im almost set on getting a staggered package of 17-9 in the front and 17-10.5 in the rear. AM sells them with tires already mounted and balanced. but all i really need is the 17-10.5 for the rear.

Have you heard the terms 'crush bend' or 'mandrel bend' ? The factory exhaust uses crush bends whereas a good catback is all mandrel bends , smooth and much less restrictive because the pipe diameter is not affected .

Underdrive pullies are stupid , they compromise your cooling system and charging system by turning the water pump and alternator more slowly . They will also spin a supercharger more slowly if you get to that point eventually .

I almost bought that same B&M shifter until a search yielded all kinds of issues with the shifter cable/adjustment .

You will need to buy a tuner because of the gear change in order to correct the speedometer . The tuner will also allow you to reflash the transmission shift points and shift firmness so you don't need to waste funds on a shift kit .

I hate the look of the stock auto shifter but it works flawlessly so i changed the appearance , here is a pic .

Don't ignore a torque converter upgrade , a 3000+ stall with 4.10 gears will really wake up an auto .

I like your idea for the shifter, it looks pretty sweet. ive decided so go against the underdrive pullies. i talked to the guys at dyno tuned performance and they said they havent heard of anyone haveing any kind of problems with them that you mentioned but they said they will interfer if you decide to blow it out down the road because they will half to come back off. for the first upgrade i am decicded to go with the 4.10 gears and ratchet shifter. ive heard of people having some problems but all of them wre people who installed them themselves. im having both installs done by dyno tuned performance witch will be warranty. I am buying all the parts myself from american muscle. Im getting the gear package which includes the 4.10 gears and installation kit, bama tuner 549.99 and oil needed and the ratchet shifter. install for gears is $522 and ratchet is $190. so said and done ill be at $1461. so with $539 left for my build im going with BBK cai 78mm throttle intake combo for $450.
