Hi,
I am new to this forum and have a question about my 1999 Mustang GT Convertible. Just recently it started acting up whenever I come to a complete stop. As soon as I stop, something shifts/jerks and it doesn't seem good (like the whole engine or something moves). If I don't completly stop, it doesn't do it. Like if I roll real slow. Also, if I put it in neutral and stop completly, it doesn't do it. It only does it when it's in 1st, 2nd or drive. Don't know if this is a common problem or not but thought I'd ask you guys if anyone knows before I bring it in and pay lots of money just to find out what's wrong. Some guess's of mine is a loose rearend, or something to do with the tranny??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Email me at unicycle6869@yahoo.com or respond to this forum. Thanks.
Does it rev up and idle funny? Maybe an Idle Air Control Valve? My 99 GT Auto does it sometimes. Like if you come to a fast stop the engine idles a little rough for a few seconds. I've actually had it stall on me.
Later,
Jason

Thanks for the replies so far. It doesn't rev up or idle funny so I don't think that's the problem. Probably the automatic transmission is my guess, so I'll do a flush and filter change and see if that solves it. If it doesn't then I'll investigate into the coverter lock up solinoid. Is this something inside the transmission? Like to fix this solinoid do you have to take apart the tranny and how hard is it to replace? Thanks again!
Just wanted to say that I had it checked by a mechanic and he says that there is nothing wrong and that it is just the brakes being too good. So guess I won't do anything unless it gets worse. Hopefully that is the problem, and don't need to fix anything.

uh, please go someplace DIFFERENT and have someone drive your car!!!!! And before you do that - CHECK THE TRANS FLUID LEVEL & ENGINE OIL. Your brakes are not "too good".

If you are talking about the feeling of the entire drivetrain moving forward an inch or so after a hard stop, my car does this as well. Only started after dealer replaced (supposedly) one of the transmission mounts. I keep meaning to get it on a lift and look at it.

Hey man, I've got an 01 and mine had a similar problem... not saying my car was shaking or anything, but it was having problems shifting... it felt confused. If your car's doing this then you might have the same problem I did. All I did to fix it (kind of stumbled on to this)... instead of putting your car all the way into drive, put it to where it's almost in neutral. I always shift completly into drive and then click it up just enough. Try this and see if it helps... it helped my car.
