hi im new, and i have a 1998 gt 5 spd. and i heard that a lighting supercharger will fit? is this true and if so, what all do i need to do to make it fit or does it bolt up etc.. thanks a bunch.
Not shure on the supercharger question, but if you relly wanted to make it fit, with enogh time and money im shure you could. It makes more sence to buy a kit that was designed for your car. If I had a 98 and wanted to get more performance out of it, id do a pi head swap. Ford began putting the pi heads on the 99+ I believe. It should get you about 30-40 hp for a lot less than a supercharger. Plus if you add a sc later you will get much better gains than if you didnt. Just my 2 cents.
sorry but no way unless you swap the heads. gonna have to do some researching on that one. try seeing about some take off cobra heads and a take off cobra blower, of course youll need a **** load of parts, and probably a new reflashed comp. too much work if you ask me, just save your money and build a motor on the side slowly but surely like me. every month buy a part then in a couple months take a week and drop that baby in.
sorry. peace
The easiest way to supercharge one of these 4.6L motors is to go with a centrifugal setup. No intake manifold changes required, just the normal fuel system upgrades and a new tune.

Even if you swapped to PI heads, it still won't fit. 1. the blower manifold is too tall to fit under a stock hood. It may fit under a 4" cowl. 2. The 5.4 has a taller deck than a 4.6 which means the heads are further apart on a 5.4. A 4.6 intake is too narrow to fit on a 5.4 and a 5.4's manifold is too wide to fit a 4.6.
If you can get a Saleen 4.6 manifold, you can use a factory Lightning blower (Eaton M112 I believe). But you'll still need to upgrade the fuel system. It might be easier to just buy a kit than try and piece something together.

I have you same car bro. 1998 gt..........My first real mod was a Vortech Supercharger.......gained 130 hp with it alone. Here is a link to some pics for you to look at....... http://webpages.charter.net/tk421ds/Colage1.jpg
upper left is with supercharger only. The rest is what I have now......SC w/ aftercooler and Alum. Cobra engine block with stage 2 ported heads.....etc.....it's a long list. I would definatly get the after cooler with the SC.
Good luck

how much did ur charger cost ( with the after cooler) and include instaltion cost unless u did it urself ... and btw whats ur hp just after the sc/cooler...and then what was ur hp after ALL of ur mods... thanks for answering my ?'s lol :>)
I disagree here: feel you'd be better off looking at the stock head/cam/intake problem first. The stock stuff is SOOOOO bad. I do not feel it's worth thinking about a supercharger until after the PI head swap.

whats the best heads for my car, intake, and cam? are pi heads the best? or just the cheapest for the $$? thanks bro

-- answer to your question is almost totally dependant on your budget: The stock, new, PI heads are around $750 for the pair (complete w/cams & assembled), PI manifold about $150 new. I have an article that shows mods to the stock non-PI heads but you'd spend some money there that I feel just makes the swap more worth it. It is the COMBINATION of the later heads, later cams, and later manifold that adds up to real power gains. Patriot Performance offers CNC ported heads for around $1200; my Fox Lake portings was $1500 on top of the price of new Ford heads but real power gain. The PI swap parts are available as kit from several places: Parkway Performance, Powerheads, others. You could also find used heads/manifold. If don't want to get into the rather large job of pulling heads, the motor also responds well to swapping to PI cams and to the PI manifold. I have a lot of info. on this and there are a couple of guys doing the swap currently. This is not a small job, and yes, just bolting on a supercharger is much easier. I got nowhere near the gains the other post indicated from my Vortech on the stock heads BUT added an additional 175hp! after I went to the ported PI heads, Comp Cams, and a couple of other items. Remember, when trying to estimate swap prices, add $200 for upper end gasket set, head bolts, coolant, oil, misc. if not buying "kit" from someone. If mechanically inclined and/or have friend to help swap could be done for less than a grand w/some used parts or could spend $$$$$$ having someone else do it w/high-end parts. Could do Search here for "headswap" and get some addit. feedback. One catch: the headswap raises the compression to over 10-1, requires premium fuel, and then dictates you can't supercharge the motor (too much compression). I went to forged, lower compression pistons (8.5-1) and forged rods in the rebuild, allowing me to run both the PI heads and the s/charger.
