Default 2000 GT Auto to Manual Swap

First post here, and I would like to know the feasibility of putting a manual tranny in my 2000 GT convertible.

Bought the 2000 GT in Dec 00 new, but I wanted to get a manual convertible, which seemed very hard to find. Out of the 5 dealers I talked to, not one of them had one (and these are big dealers). I got a good deal on a fully loaded '00 but I've never been overly happy with the fact it's an auto. It's a beautiful car, silver with black leather interior. It has 48,000 miles on it and has never had anything done other than oil changes and coolant flush.

Now that the car is almost paid off, it's time to have some fun with it. Do you all think it would be worth the swap? I'd really like to keep this one as it's my first brand new car, but if it would be more pain I might look for a used 04 Mach 1.

Thanks for the help.

Cost might be in the $2000 range, you will also need to reprogram the computer (EEC V) which ads a bit more to that price.

Thanks for the information. Why would I need to reprogram the computer?

Here's the parts I think I will need:
5 speed tranny, clutch, and driveshaft
clutch & brake pedals and assembly
clutch hydraulic reservior & associated hoses

I don't plan to replace the steering column or gauge cluster. I will start looking for a wrecked 99-04 to be a donor car. I plan to do all the work myself.

If you do a quick search on the site, there are more than a few write ups about this question as far as what you may need for it.

You have to flash the computer because it is set up to "run" an auto with shiftpoints and all that jazz.

Ampperformance.com has some listings for Auto to Manual Conversions:

96-00 auto to T-45 for 1,449 (used)
96-00 auto to T-45 (used but rebuilt) 1,899

96-00 AODE to T-45 Conversion

http://www.ampperformance.com/pics/NotAvailable.jpg Part Number: AMP-TC96-00aod to T45

Conversion kit includes the following:

- Stock shifter w/ball
- Bell w/Pivot ball
- Starter Plate
- Flywheel w/dowels
- Crossmember and Trans mount
- Wiring
- Pedal box w/Quadrant
- Shifter Boot
- Clutch case
- and all the necessary bolts

NOTE - clutch is optional and you will be retaining your stock drive shaft & computer.

Price: $1,449.00 http://www.ampperformance.com/pics/purchase_button.jpg

Hope that gets you started

Probably also want to look at Mustang Parts Specialties for both your parts needs and instructions; they've done all this before: http://www.stangparts.com/home.cfm?section=howto/index
