Okay, I got a catback a few weeks back and I love it, but want it louder! Not "truck" loud, but "muscle car" loud when I step on it. So I figure an X pipe will get it louder, but the guy who works on my car at the performance shop says that only the o/r x pipe will get it louder. He says that the catted x pipe will not get it much louder than stock. There isn't any emissions testing here so that isn't an issue.
I will probably go with the Bassani x and yes I have listened to the sound clips on mustangexhaust.com and I still can't decide. Give me your opinions please. Catted X or O/R?
Ponygirl, a offroad x-pipe will make your car louder. The Tuner shop that I've been using told me that there was not much diff. h.p. wise from one to another and recommended the UPR version ($150) because of price. It along with the Flowmaster catbacks I had put on at the same time sound great to me. Not bad at idle, loud under acceleration. Hope this helps.

Bassani O/R X would be my choice but,it's too bad that their
is emissions testing in my state.I have had a Bassani X pipe
with cats for three years now and no problems with it so far.
The Bassani X would be a great choice as far as X pipes go.
I'd also recommend the Bassani X-Pipe (Bassani makes 2, with the prime difference being the grade of steel used - the more expensive item has better metal, but no better performance). Their warranty is a partivularly good one.
If you want louder, these pipes will definitely make a difference. From my research, there is only a slight hp increase when deleting the cats, although you save a good bit of money.
I have the Bassani Off road X-pipe. I like the sound and fit and finish. You probably want to get the MIL eliminators with the Off road pipe. Other wise your Check engine light will be on.
Bassani gets my vote....bit more of a raspy sound, but real nice.:thumbsup :thumbsup savin some sweet moolah to get a bassani catted X...if there is no emissions problems then i would get the O/R X...u know bassani also makes an X with removable cats...great way to remain legal when it is time to get smogged....

I haven't seen an x pipe with removable cats. That might be a good idea. I want to go with the ss Bassani o/r but I don't want to have to worry about possible future emissions testing.
Does anyone have a link for a Bassani w/ removable cats?
Go with the Bassani, but you need different mufflers for more sound. I have the Bassani Xpipe with cats. I have changed "catbacks" several times now and THe worst sound is from Flomasters. They are very restrictive and drone to much. I would recomend the SLP catbacks. I have them now and they are super loud and mean!
I would also suggest getting the X-pipe with Cats. It will cost you less $ (you will need a few 100$ in xtra parts for the Offroad Xpipe).
You may also need a tune with the offroad to prevent backflow and detonation issues later on.
BTW-the 2-cats on the Bassani X-pipe are high flow cats and not in any way similar to the 4 stock ones.

I vote for an SLP modular system The catted x-pipe lists for $439.95. T-304 stainless steel with a life time warantee. Their off road pipe is $379.95. You can buy the catted system and keep the air we have to breath clean. If you want more racket or a few more ponies you can buy their race pipes that slip in, in place of the cats for $69.95. Check it out at www. slponline.com.
Before replacing your new cat-backs I'd install the X pipe and give it a listen.
As for choosing between SLP and Bassani, its hard to go wrong either way. If cost is a primary concern, I believe the SLP's can be found a little cheaper than the Bassani's (www.mustangtuning.com is a site I'd check). I hesitate to recommend the SLP's from their long-standing brand loyalty to GM - which loyalty seems to be slipping now that GM isn't making pony cars any longer! This prejudice aside, their stuff is first rate, and that includes their cat back systems (resonators, not mufflers - hence the decibals).
I still like the American Thunder sound, but since the wreck (took out my catbacks). I'll be swapping in my OE catbacks once the car is fixed. Must confess I am looking at the SLP's too...

I have SS Bassani X Pipes with cat backs and they are awsome..love the growl and I consider it one of my favorite upgrades to my car. I spent the bucks on SS and I am glad that I did. If your going to do it...do it right you wont regret it.
