I just bought a 99 GT convertible for my wife and wondering if I change the 6 cats h pipe on it with a 4 cat h pipe from my 02 GT make a little difference in sound and power? thanks for any help

Yeah it'll make a difference, but I would just go ahead and replace the 6 cat pipe with a good aftermarket 2 cat pipe for better results.

I thought the 99+ GT's only had 4 cats?

On my car (6 cats stock), they melted on me, so I had a muffler shop replace them with just two new cats. It made the car a lot louder, and there's some sad exhaust sounds at a couple rpms that make my car sound like a truck.

If I were you, I'd buy an aftermarket X pipe with zero or two cats, and put it on your 2002 GT. Forget about your wife's car.
