Default Manual Tranny Fluid - GM Synchromesh?

Tried to search, but couldn't find any info... anyone using, or tried GM Synchromesh in their manual transmissions?

Ok, I guess I'll just be trying it on my own...

My T5 is a little notchy and I'm about to change my fluid out in hopes to get a little smoother shifts. I'm going with the Redline D4 ATF fluid, mainly based on reviews on other mustang boards. On the Corral.net boards the GM Synchromesh seems to be a popular choice. There were better reviews for Redline D4 ATF, though, some from people that used both the GM stuff and the Redline D4 in the T5's and 3650's.

Check out www.myoilshop.com for the redline stuff (cheapest I've found on the net so far).

As for the GM Synchromesh, I'm almost positive that it is made by Pennzoil. I know AutoZone carries the Pennzoil Synchromesh for 1/3-1/2 the price of the GM Synchromesh from the GM Stealership’s (I believe it is $4.99 a bottle). I've used the Pennzoil Synchromesh in a Mazda MX-6 not long ago and I noticed a marked improvement in smoothness of shifts especially when cold.

I always ran Mobil 1 ATF Synthetic with no problems.

Haven't tried AutoZone, Advance is much closer and they don't carry it... Just happened to be near the GM dealer and picked up a case of the stuff for our Hondas and DSMs. I pay $6-7 a quart from the dealer.

I'll check with Pep Boys and AutoZone... thanks. Redline I'd have to order, but I'll look and see if anyone carries the Mobil 1 ATF locally. I don't feel like ordering it and dealing with all that for a few quarts of tranny oil.

AutoZone also carries the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF as well (only chain parts store that does here in CO). Just bought some for my Maxima last week @ $4.99 a quart. They also carry the Redline water wetter, but couldn't get me any of the ATF Fluid. Hopefully they will in the future.

Also if money isn't a factor, check out NAPA for BG Products Synchroshift. A few of the DSM guys I know swear by that stuff. I know it made my friends 3000gt VR4's tranny silky smooth. I also got a lot of recommendations for it on various Mazda forums for my late MX-6(ford probe) saying that it was hands down better than the GM Synchromesh as well as Redline products.

I hate having to order fluid and would rather get it locally as well. I think NAPA wanted around $20 a bottle for the BG Synchroshift which is why I cheaped out and got the Pennzoil Synchromesh, I'm definitely not saying that I regret it though.

BG is almost exactly the same stuff as the GM Synchromesh, true DSM guys are way too cheap to buy it. There is a reason they call me the Hebrew Hammer...

If you check the T-3550 service manual that's on this site, it says to use the Synchromesh fluid. I'm switching over to Royal Purple. I just have to figure out what weight to use.

Put in the synchromesh today... feels better, but I guess this thing won't ever shift great. Was surprised to find ATF in the tranny to begin with...

I replaced the ATF with Mobil 1 Synthetic gear lube yesterday. Car shifts great and gets better gas milage now. The only downside is that it cost $7 a quart.
