Default Couple quick tune up questions

Ok i'm ready to do my tune up.

So what spark plugs should i get? I mean what is the best performing HP wise?

Also what kind of transmission fluid should i get should i go with Synthetic? I've heard some people say go with just the standard from ford because there is a little slip with synthetic? If i go with Synthetic should i go with Amsoil Royal purple Red Line Does Mobil 1 make this? Also what grade should i use?

Fuel filter does it really matter? Is one better then the other? If so which brand?
Brake pads does it really matter? Is one pad better then the other? If so which brand?

Go with stock Motorcraft spark plugs and Motorcraft Mercon V Transmission Fluid. For a fuel filter i'd also go stock.

Stick with the stock plugs. They work the best.

I think you've got the T-3550 transmission, if that's the case then do NOT use Mercon in it. The manufacturers maual that's posted in the tech section says to use GM Synchromesh. I replaced that junk with Mobil 1 full synthetic 75W-90 a week ago and the transmission shifts much better now and I even picked up a little fuel milage too. Go for the stokc spark plugs, they work just fine. Any 'upgrade' plugs just aren't gonna be worth it in the long run because they're so damn expensive. I use Deutsch fuel filters.

Ford Motorcraft spark plugs, and fuel filters work the best on our cars.
For the transmission fluid the Mobil 1 ATF Synthetic works very good.
For the engine oil I would go with Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W30 Kevin.
I have used Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W30 the whole life of my car and
it protects very we'll and I never had a problem with it.

Go with stock Motorcraft spark plugs and Motorcraft Mercon V Transmission Fluid. For a fuel filter i'd also go stock

the best! i second that

you could also go to the ford dealer and pick up some synthetic manual trans fluid, i think its expensive though

As far as fluids and plugs go, I'll keep my tounge. On the subject of filters I'll say this: There are a few filter manufacters in the world, just a fraction of the number of different boxes you see on the shelf. None of the few makers actually tool up to make every filter for the 1000's of diiferent applications. The company I worked for from 1992 to 2000 made 100's of filters(that no one else in the world made) that went into 1000's of different boxes. I did not work for Fram, but we made many, many filters that went into Fram boxes and visa versa. With that being said there is no difference in any filter you buy for a particular application, such as a 2004 4.6 2V. In my 8yrs there the only difference I saw as far as quality of filter media from one to the next other than packaging was Purolator and Mopar oem ( and two for the military ). Now for a really common application like a 350 chevy, every box you see is built by one of three companys. But for a less common application like a 2.0 L Ford, whoever got the contract to build the original oem filter will produce the filters for the other filter makers and every lable. Sorry to be so lengthy, hope this helps.

WOW this is very interesting. I thought for sure everyone was going to say go with after market plugs. As far as the trans fluid goes yes i think i'm going to go with the mobil 1 75w90 anyone know how many quarts i need?

Seems i'll just go with a Motorcraft fuel filter.

I've only got about 20,000 miles on my car dam i may just not touch the plugs there good for like a 100,000 right?

Oh by the way yes i always use mobil 1 syn 5w30 for oil good stuff so i should be good with Mobil trans oil. I used Mobil 1 for my gears when i put my 4.10's in.

Kevin from what I was told by a service tech at the Ford Dealership
the spark plug interval is 60K or four years whatever comes first.

The service manual calls for 3 quarts of Synchromesh, I used just under three quarts when I replced mine. BTW, you're gonna need just a 3/8 inch ratchet to get the fill plug off. Come at it from behind and over the rear crossbrace unless you have double jointed wrists and elbows. get a 5-6 foot length of rubber hose, up to a half inch in outside diameter fits I think. Remember the bigger the better, I used 1/4 inside diameter fuel hose and it took us almost 45 minutes to squeeze in all the fluid. One last thing, be sure you lock-tite or RTV seal the fill and drain plugs when you re-install them.

I'll give u my suggestion for what i used for spark plugs. ngk non-platinum. With all the other stuff go with motorcraft. The reason for the plugs a lot of times it is hard to see the wear on platinum plugs. a non platinum u can tell when they are getting worn out. Know u do have to change the ngk's at 30,000 or less but cheaper and i think better.

underdrive pulleys, 3.73 gears, steeda short ram intake, off road h pipe, magnaflow bullet mufflers, 93 oct, superchip with boosted transmission line pressure, taylor wires, 75 shot nitrous.

I'm with you on the copper plugs, but why NGK over the Motorcraft plugs? Not trying to bait you for anything stupid, I am curious. I've always used OEM brand plugs in whatever car I'm working on, even if I'm changing the heat range or electrode depth...
