Default Shift Boot Removal?

I'm replacing the ripped vinyl shift boot in my 98 GT. I got the Carbon leather boot to replace it. How do I go about removing the old boot from inside the console? There are a ton of little tabs but it appears the only way to remove the boot is to break those tabs. I don't want to break anything. If I could get an answer ASAP that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Tom

If you disassemble that whole part of the console, like you were going to put on a different shifter, the boot should slip right off over the top, then all you do is put it back together.
