What do I use to clean my EGR and my IAC?

I would use carburator cleaner and try to use a brush so it can get in the small areas. After is dry spray some wd-40 or other lubricant for egr. For the IAC I would be more careful just spray wd-40. Some times is just better to replace the IAC. I just replace the IAC since I damage mine and it feels good I notice more gains on the pull.

For all 4.6 owners with idleing issues. if your 4.6 is idleing at stop try this to figure whats causing it. When the engine is cold or hasn't run for a day or so. Turn on the engine if the idle seems to be stable at the beginning then about 5 to 10 minutes later when the engine gets warmer if it starts to idle up and down there is a big chance is the EGR valve. if it idles on a cold start up it could be the IAC or TPS.Hope this helps.

Trottle position sensor issue, when I start up the engine it starts to idle up and down. I've install new IAC did it worse, new EGR no change, took apart all intake plenum and install back and no change. Then I installed new TPS and no change, thought when I remove the tps sensor the engine started to idle normaly. I turn the TPS counterclockwise by just a few degrees and it was fine but did not have a way to install it like that since it only goes one way. Does any one know what the tps is for? Ive remove it and turn on a/c and no problem.

Post TPS how to install and recaibrate...

To all who need help installing TPS or having idling problems this could be the fix. Is not as simple it seems because some time new calibration is needed. I replaced my tps and work fine after a few easy steps and reseting the ECU. Below there is an article I googled and work for me. Ive went through IAC, EGR, vacum lines pcv and nothing, until new tps fix it. Good luck every one.

Common faults

The TPS is sensitive to heat, moisture and vibration leading to the failure of some units. The sensor is a sealed unit and cannot be repaired only replaced. A TPS may fail gradually leading to a number of symptoms which can include one or more of the following: -
  • Poor idle control: The TPS is used by the ECU to determine if the throttle is closed and the car should be using the Idle Air Control Valve exclusively for idle control. A fault TPS sensor can confuse the ECU causing the idle to be erratic or "hunting".
  • High Idle Speed: The TPS may report faulty values causing the engine idle speed to be increased above normal. This is normally found in conjunction with a slow engine return to idle speed symptom.
  • Slow engine return to idle: A failing TPS can report the minimum throttle position values incorrectly which can stop the engine entering idle mode when the throttle is closed. Normally when the throttle is closed the engine fuel injectors will be deactivated until a defined engine RPM speed is reached and the engine brought smoothly to idle speed. When failing a TPS will not report the throttle closed and fueling will continue causing the engine to return to idle very slowly.
  • Engine Hesitation on Throttle Application: The TPS is also used by the ECU to determine if the driver has applied the throttle quicker than the Manifold Air Pressure sensor can read. The fueling is adjusted acordingly to cope with the sudden increase in air volume, however a faulty sensor can cause the ECU to ignore this data and the engine will "hesitate" when applying the throttle. In extreme cases with the engine at idle, a sudden application of full throttle can stall the engine.
  • Engine Misfire: A fault TPS can report values outside the deined acceptable range causing the ECU to incorrectly fuel the engine. This is noticable as a slight misfire and can trigger the misfire detection software and/or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) light on the dashboard. Extreme cases can cause excessing misfires resulting in one or more cylinders being shut down to prevent engine and catalytic converter damage.
Manual Recalibration

In all cases a manual recalibration of the TPS may resolve the issues at least on a temporary basis. To recalibrate the TPS: -
  1. With the engine off, insert the key and turn the ignition to position 2 (On) without starting the engine.
  2. For MEMS-equipped cars (S1), quickly press and release the accelerator pedal several times (at least 5, but to be sure 8 or 9) using as much of the throttle travel as practicable. This will trigger the ECU into the closed-throttle reference learn algorithm, which has it looking for the lowest measured static throttle position (the closed position). The throttle position calibration is a fixed definition from this point.
  3. Turn the ignition off, remove the key and wait for the ECU to power down (about 30-40s).
  4. Start car as normal

hey guys,i drive a 2002 gt. i posted a thread a while ago about a hissing/sucking noise in my car, took to my mechanic and he said it was coming form the IAC valve. Are these IAC's known for making that noise ??? i don't have any ideling issues or anything on my car so i'm wondering if i should replace it anyways.... ???

It will make noise unless is open( hose out). but usually it can be some thing else or normal thing. If you want just get a new one if it does not fix just keep looking or try to see what size gasket does the IAC have some people install smaller gasket to lower the rpm hanging when shifting gears. but i dought it. good luck

use your dash computer to figure out the real rpm numbers. maybe the niddle was install a little of.

to use your computer dash and see if there are issues

when ignition key is off, press and hold the mileage reset button, turn on the car and let go the reset button. then it will go in to scan mode. keep pressing the reser button do not hold or you will have to start over. press until you get to the section of the rpm is a really cool thing to know, there are a lot of things that I don't know what it is for.
