Question progressive rate, specific rate

please explain in laymans terms the difference between these spring types please...

Specific rate: the spring rate stays the same no matter how far you compress the spring.

Progressive rate: the further you compress the spring, the more resistance(higher spring rate) you get.

Progressives allow you to have a smooth ride over small bumps while still reducing body roll when you dive hard into a corner.
