Default I know this is the wrong forum for it - hood/trunk/bumper paint

But the last time I posted it to the appropriate forum, I didn't get any help. Hopefully somebody here will know - or at least be able to give me a ballpark figure.

- Are the foglight plugs the same on the GT as they are on the Cobra? Can't imagine it would be a difficult thing to change if they weren't, but thought I should ask anyway.

- What would it cost to get this painted? Assuming I buy this used (if I can), and it has to be stripped/prepped before paint.

Also contemplated doing one of two things w/ the hood. Either replacing it w/ something like a Cowl Induction hood or getting a shaker scoop installed.

- How much would it be to have my hood cut (or can it be done?) to have the shaker installed.

- How much would it be to have the cowl hood painted? This would likely be a new fiberglass piece, whatever prep work would be necessary from that point.

I've also considered removing the spoiler on the back, which would obviously leave me w/ holes in the trunk.

- Would it be better to replace the entire trunk? Or can they be welded and/or filled w/ something that is not prone to cracking (ex. body filler).

- Again, paint cost. This of course using the trunk I have (if applicable) or for a replacement + prep and paint.

None of this work would be done by me, mainly because I suck at body work and I know nothing about shooting paint - other than to leave it to the pro's.

Thanks guys!

Edit: This is just for labor and paint, the parts I would be tracking down myself. Although if you happen to have a rough estimate what this would cost total (parts + labor) that would be great! Thanks again.

The reason it was not answered is because it depends a lot on the shop doing the labor.

Labor costs vary considerably from one place to another. The easiest way to find prices is getting quotes directly from at least a pair of shops.

I damaged my bumper and hood and had them replaced. Ive been to many paint shops and went through the the whole ordeal. Okay first off, the problem with just painting the hood or bumper is that it wont be exactly the same as the rest of the car. Not so much the color just the finish (texture and swirl marks developed over time.) but if your not looking for a show car look it wont be that noticable. You should be able to get it done for less then $300 each. They sell shaker hood kits for about $700 and they install to your stock hood. Modifying your hood into a cowl induction type will cost just as much as buying a new fiberglass one. Another thing to consider is getting a Carbon Fiber Hood. Then you wont have to paint it.
New Cowl induction hood (not painted) - $400-$500
New carbonfiber hood (no paint needed) - $500-$600
New Shaker hood setup (not painted) (includes shaker kit and labor) - $900-$1000
The front bumper cost is going to be a lot if you try to buy a new oem one but if you look around the internet you might be able to find a cheaper one. The fog lamp plugs may be the same just call a ford dealership and they should be able to tell you if its different or not and it wouldnt be difficult to change the plug. Any mechanic should be able to do it in less then an hour. Usually if your going to paint those two parts you would have then entire front end painted (quarter panals also). This will make it easier to hide the texture and color match problems. If you ask around you should be able to get it done for about a $1000.
Taking off the rear spoiler should not be a problem. Ive also considered it and just the other day I saw a mustang with it taken off and he just had little plugs to plug the whole. You can get small nuts and bolts with rubber washers to plug the holes and it didnt look bad at all.

GTRaptor - Agreed the best way is to go ask of course, I'm just looking for a ball park figure out of curiosity more than anything. Just to ensure it isn't some obsurd amount of money, so I know whether or not to plan on doing this at all.

GTStang31 - I wasn't trying to insinuate that I was going to modify my current hood into a cowl hood, that would be a silly amount of work and not cost effective in the least bit. Carbon Fibre (err... carbon/glass) isn't a bad idea if I can find a style that I want - and would look pretty sechsi w/ the black Motegi's sitting in my room.

In an ideal situation I would be able to find a Cobra bumper from the same model year or close in the same color (assuming of course the Cobra was available in my color which I haven't checked into yet) and hope it's in good condition.

But who know's, making it pretty(er) is pretty low on the priority list for now - suspension work is getting done first. I'm hoping to have the suspension I have in mind wrapped up by the end of summer at the latest, then I'll worry about this other stuff .

Thank you both for your input.
