Mine has never cut out. It has pulled right past 145 with no problem. I did it only for a short time. I had it still in 4th and was still pulling when I told myself to back it down. Enough was enough.
I feel there is no real need to find out top speed anymore.
I've had mine up to 145 in 4th at 6k RPMs, redline is about 6,800 RPMs so I still had some space before having to shift to 5th. My car manual from Ford says the top speed is 164.5 mph, but I personally have not been able to confirm that.

The Gt's that did not come from the factory with 17 inch Z rated rubber have a speed limiter that starts pulling timing at about 125-128mph.The rest are only limited by HP.Most stock GT's run about 140-145 in 4th gear@6000 rpm and generally dont have the torque to pull 5th at those speeds,so that doesnt add really anymore top end speed....

It's limited by the computer.
If the computer wouldnt cut out, it would be somewhere close to 160 when the HP cant push past the drag anymore.
Wrong it is. Stock gearing and stock power the car stops pulling around 145MPH and it's not hitting a speed limiter. See SMACKDWN46's post. We are talking GT not Cobra here.
