Default hard to shift into 3rd at times...

I have been having trouble shifting into 3rd from time to time feels like i hit something i wiggle a bit and it slips in. Someone said there may be a linkage problem. Not real sure if this is a serious issue... please if anyone knows what the problem could be let me know.

Thanks,

Preston

I hear you can re-install old parts once you've uninstalled them.....

Just rumor though, can't hold me liable if it doesn't pan out :P.

Isn't the "fix" to use GM Syncomesh fluid after the new syncro's are installed? If that's the case you could just switch fluid now and avoid ever having to deal with the problem - then you could legitimatly get your short throw and not worry about it .

I'm experiencing the problem now, unfortunatly.... I'm going to try switching fluids to see if it makes any difference.

I'm glad that the TSB was posted because I have been having an ongoing debate with my Ford dealer about this problem with my Bullitt. I consider myself damn good at rowing the gears with any stick car but this thing always seemed to lock me out of 3rd when I power shift. At first I thought it was the stock shifter so I installed a Steeda Tri-ax which finds 3rd for you and have the same problem. If I come off the gas just the slightest bit, it goes in. I've been rebuilding Mopar 4-speeds for over 35 yrs. and its usually an indication of a bent fork, bad clutching teeth on the gear or a bad synchronizer but of course their answer is always "ah, these trannys are much better then those old things", or it must be me. Well, I can go through the gears in my '69 Mopar at 7000 rpm and NEVER miss. Now I have something to go back and argue with, thanks again for the info guys.

Yeah, the TSB is dead on for this one I think. The 3650's have crappy synchros in them. They've known about it for years and haven't done anything to fix it for some reason. Just one more reason for me to look forward to a TKO.

I hope this works for you all....didn't for me. I believe mine has a throwout problem but no one wants to hear that. Even after the synchros were changed it will grind into second and also not shift into 3rd correctly unless it's done at lower torque.

I am not a sloppy shifter either but I kept blaming myself until I had a couple other people drive it and have the same issue.

A TSB is NOT a recall. It is a Technical Service Bulletin. In short, it tells the dealer how to fix a problem that is common to the vehicle. If your car is still in warranty or the dealer has worked on the problem before your warranty ended, you are covered. If the dealer never attempted to correct this problem on your car and the regular warranty has ended, they fix the problem and you pay.

I have this same Problem with my 2004 GT I took it in (my car is still under 3yr 36,000 miles) and the service guy told me the sound was "normal" for my car. Did I get fed BS? and does my car does have the same trans in 04? Since my car is still covered wouldnt they want to fix it so they get paid by Ford?

fight and or go to another dealer, print out the TSB and take it to them. fight to end better to spend time fighting than spending money. that crap is expensive. if else fails save some money and get a tko!
