Default How Beneficial are New Gears?

I have been hearing alot about people buying new gears for their mustangs and people saying it is a must. I have a few mods to my 97 Gt and would like to do something that makes a very noticable difference. Are gears really worth it? I hear install is kind of pricey. If anyone has some feedback of if its worth it and what kind i should buy that would be helpful. Thanks!

yes,

I have a buddy thathas a 2003 Saleen, and he threw 4.10's in the back. It felt like he threw a s/c in the car. Recently I submitted a thread asking what the gears appeared to make in hp. 4.10s add 25% of torque - so if u have 280 lbs of torque with stock gears if u put 4.10s in it the torque increases up to 350 - see the difference

I hear a lot about 4.10s. Are these still the way to go even if the car is strictly street driven?

for street driven daily driver 96+ mustang 4.10's are about what you need unless you have s/c turbo or nitrous don't go less than 4.10's if you plan on spraying/forced induction then 3.73's are probably better...and don't cheap out go with ford racing gears, motive and richmond are notorious for whining and just being noisy sh1t and if you are going to keep it a daily driver going steeper than 4.10's might be a little rough

most used gear is 373s, motive makes a 390 which is half of 410 and 373 but i had motive 373s and i wont get them again, they snapped on me. i might go with 410s when i get a new axle build with 31 spline and everything. thats way down the road.

I have 3.73 gears. I think that 4.10's are more for auto's. Even with just 332 rwhp I couldn't get traction to good till about half way through 2nd. My mpg was not that bad either. If you are going to put DR or other suspension mods on I would say go with 4.10's, but if not go with 3.73.
