Default 2000 GT engine swap to built 5.0

I have a nice 5.0 block and heads but it needs new internals, my 4.6 has 136,000 on it. Should i build up the 5.0 and swap the motor or jus build the 4.6 and go with it. I want to make my car fast, what would be a better idea?

I think you have to change the K-member in order to fit the 5.0 in a newer mustang. Plus if you want FI you will need to change the computer and maybe the wiring harness. For a swap like this I would use a carb. You may lose some fuel mileage but it is cheaper to work on.

Yeah i kinda wanted to go with carberated cause i have always liked carbed motors. the car is a daily driver right now but if i do the swap it will be a track/weekend car. do you know if it would mount to the t-5 trans thats in my car already

What year is your stang? Most early 4.6L's used a T45 tranny which will not work on a 5.0 motor. My 97 GT had a T45 and the bellhousing was not removeable and I think the bolt patterns on a 4.6 motor is different. If you are going to make some power (350hp+) just buy a TKO 500 or 600 tranny. With the TKO trannys all you have to do is change the bellhousing to go from a 4.6 to a 5.0 and they are much stronger than most factory trans.

Dude, the 4.6L engine with decent cams and heads will do just as much if not more than a 5.0L and you won't have to do all the EFI component swaps and trany swap and K member swap. Just build the 4.6.

The 4.6 is a good motor but it is cheaper to work on a 5.0.

Yeah but to convert to a 5.0 is pretty expensive in itself.

Hey thanks for your help guys, oh yeah i have a 2000 gt so i am not sure if the tranny will bolt up. i have been debating this for a couple days now. i just want to do somethin with that 302 block maybe build it and put it in fox body. My 2000 already has 130,000 miles on it, the guy who had it drove it almost 100 miles a day! and i was wondering if i should jus rebuild it with forged parts so i dont have to worry about any problems down the road. My car still runs really strong for those miles, 13.9s at 99.3 mph. But sticking to EFI is somethin that i would like to keep considering the cost of gas

Yeah build the 4.6 with a forged rotating assembly and that way you can push some serious boost if you ever get bored with it N/A.
