Ive posted a similar thread reguarding my auto trans. Maybe someone can tell me if this is common for my year mustang or if something sounds off. Okay. When i first got the car i hated how slow the tranny shifted under full acceleration. Whenever i would manually or in D shift from first to second, it would usually hit the revlimiter for a sec or two and then shift into second. I changed the fluid and filter and bought a superchip tuner(mistake), and hoped this would be my solution. Well, for a while it would shift hard, but lately its back to doing the same thing. The damn car wont shift into second without hitting the revlimiter first. Correct me if im mistaken, but i usually manually shift it, and i put it into second clost to 5k, but it hits 7k before it shifts. not only does it drive me crazy, but it scares the hell out of me because i dont wanna spin a bearing or throw a rod. Shouldnt the car shift almost instantaniously? And secondly, is the tranny have another controller for its shift points other than the ECM? Also i was thinking that mayber the Active Memory in the ECM is starting to reset its self back to stock? Sorry for so many questions, but i wanna find some answers before i kill my car! Thanks guys!

Your trying to manually shift a trans thats not really meant to be, all your going to do is put it in an early grave and give yourself a nice bill and reason to buy a performance automatic or switch to a manual.
why would manually shifting it be bad? What if it does it in Drive? my first auto trans car, everyday i wish it was a manual, but too late to change. any suggestions short of a new tranny(im still paying 450 bucks a month for the car)!Money is always an issue, but i would like better shifts and longer life on the trans. and i also have a trans cooler on it already.

That problem is the superchips tuner. I had the same problem. You cant take off the top speed limiter or the rev limiter. Leave them where they are normally and just adjust the shift pressure. My car would rev to almost 7000 rpm also and It isnt good for your engine. Once I got my custom tune the problem went away and now my car shifts great. And I love to play around and manually shift my auto all the time. It has 76,000 miles on it and seems to be okay right now. But getting a valve body would be a good idea or a shift kit or the j mod.
GTSTANG31, i thought it might have something to do with the tuner. i'm actually sending it back this week to have them look at my stock program and have them burn a new program.(they say than can fix this problem but we will see). my car just turned 60k and i manually shift it A LOT! i hope its not too bad for it. i would like to get a shift kit, but ive heard good and bad things about them. I looked at the transgo, but like i said i havent heard enough positive things to make my mind up. who knows, maybe i'll do a valve body and TC down the line.

To be totally honest I wouldnt put a shift kit in it. Sadly, the 4r70w's aren't known to last for much more then 80000 miles without needing some work. Shift kits only shorten the life of your tranny. Im looking into a valve body ($500) because this will help with the shifting and also when it comes time for a rebuild of the tranny I will have a good valve body already. Performance Automatic makes a good valve body.
Just be careful with how much and how hard your shifting it. The 4R70W is actually not a bad transmission, its a good step up from the crap that came in my car. (I went through two if those.) As a matter of fact my Lentech unit is a beefed up 4R70W.
The shiftkits are cheaper thats for sure but I wouldnt bother with one because Ive also heard mixed reviews. If you really want to firm things up, save your money and spend it on a valve body. This is a good investment and you have some control over how hard or soft it shifts. (When you order it, you can request how you want it.)
If you still crave a little more from the tranny you can even change the stall converter to something a little more performance oriented.
And I can tell you from experience the guys at Lentech are nothing short of helpful. You can call them up and just get some feedback.
