Default Shuddering Between 45-55MPH

With my 2003 GT auto. It is very slight, but noticable. The car is also delayed getting into any gear, especially when going from drive to reverse, or vis versa. It takes the car a good two or three seconds to get into gear. This is not normal, and with the shuddering, it makes me think tranny. Since it is shifting into overdrive when it starts, it especially makes me think tranny. It isn't slipping though. The fluid is not burnt or low.

Does anyone have any idea on what is wrong? I am trying to narrow everything down hoping that it isn't the transmission. Considering that it isn't a vibration, that narrows it down a lot. The car only has 39,000 miles on it.

and shuddering is common in these trannys due to the break down of the fluid.

I have only owned the car for a month, so I don't know. I was going to wait to do the fluid/filter at the same time I do a jmod, but I haven't done either once I noticed the tranny issue.

A fluid change is an easy fix! I will hurry up and do that and see if that fixes it. I wonder about getting into gear though. The v6 auto's I have driven didn't do this, but it is a different transmission. It just doesn't seem normal. Maybe that could be fluid related as well?

It sounds like torque converter shudder. Changing the fluid should help it unless it's gone on too long. Don't go any further than 30k miles between changing your trans fluid.

We had that exact problem on a pontiac grand prix we had, mechanics said it was transmission, it was the torque converter that causes the shutter

These are 2 separate problems. First the "shudder". This transmission does this more than others going into OD and locking up the torque converter. A lot of guys just lock out the OD unless they're going to do a lot of highway driving. As you fluid gets more miles on it some of the additives start to lose their effectiveness and will make this shudder become more apparent. Good time to change the oil and filter!
Second the delay, particularly going into Reverse. I took my car in about the delay and they hooked it up checked everything and pretty much found nothing wrong. The dope that did the work suggested I step on the gas when shifting into Reverse! I don't think so! Apparently the trans is the same as the full size cars and light trucks but the program is different. The shift delay is the nature of the beast.
