You need to find out of your car is chipped. On the newer mustangs your gear ratio needs to be changes from your ECU.

The gears themselves are about $150 and the kit to install them is about $75. It should cost anywhere from $250 - $300 for the labor. Your going to need to get your speedo recalibrated and that cost about $100 for the part. Your better off getting a performance chip or programmer at the same time to recalibrate your speedo. I know when I was 17 money wasnt that easy to come by, so if you dont plan on doing any major mods for a while id say to just go online and find a performance chip from like www.mustangtuning.com. They sell chips for about $270 and they come with one custom burn. This way you'll also be getting a little more performance out of your car. The programmers themselves cost about $400.

Prices range from $200-600 for labor. It just depends on where you live. Here in my town, the cheapest place I found was $400 for labor.

ok my biggest question is when i get the gears what all needs calibration just the speedo? (which i can get that little gear thing then) or do other aspects of the car need adjusting as well, do i NEED a programmer remember i have an automatic...
?so which one on a budget?
A: gears+programmer
B:gears+speedometer calibrator

gears($400-$800)+speedo calibrator($100)

gears($400-$800)+performance chip($270)

I would defenitly wait till you can afford a programmer, dont waste the money on the speedo calibrator. You can always just get the gears and fix the speedo later. I did that when I got my gears. I had the speedo off for about 3 months. Just dont drive faster then everyone else around. LOL.

Summitracing.com has FRPP gears for 144.00 and up depending on gear ratio. They also carry a FRPP master install kit with wheel bearings and seals for 95.00. The SCT X-cal 2 would be the tuner of choice to reprogram your speedo and tune the car. The X-cal would run about 350.00 to 400.00. Install labor in TN runs 200.00 to 325.00. I paid 325.00 because my 97 GT has the old speedo (not electric) and the gear was 25.00. So I actually paid 300.00 for install with new wheel bearrings and seals. If you have future plans of NOS or a supercharger go ahead and install 31spline axles. You will have to change the diff to a 31spl unit also.

You probably were looking at the Motive gears (another brand). If you look again the FRPP are 180 for 3.73 and 240 for the 4.10s.
