Default Lucas Oil And Transmission fix formulas

I was recently in auto zone and they had this display of gears on the counter that were lubricated with oil and another set lubricated with oil and lucas oil lubricant. I was pretty impressed, and the two guys behind the counter said they have used it for years and both have had amazing results. I bought both the oil lubricant additive and the transmission fix formula. I am waiting to put the transmission one in until i get the fluid changed, and have not yet used the oil.
Does anyone have any experience with LUCAS products??? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!!!

NEVER use Lucas or any other kind of "engine honey". That stuff is THICK and just quiets down parts if you have lifter ticks or other engine problems. Stay away from any of those products. Use Mobil 1 synthetic oil and motorcraft filters. They will lubricate the engine perfectly.

I just wanted to add, Good question, I was wondering the same thing. I'm always walking into AutoZone and anytime I'm put on hold, I'm there spinning the gears, LOL.

Default Oil Additives

Gear oil additives and friction modifiers are frequently essential for the proper function of your rear end or transmission.

Motor oils are different - I too use only Mobil 1, though I also use the extended life oil filters that match synthetic oils.

I suspect the Lucas friction modifier will be good for your rear, but DO drain the old oil first. Start with all clean oil as much as possible.

It's just a band-aid product.

It supposedly conditions the oil so that it runs more/less viscous with different stresses/conditions.

It wouldn't hurt to use it, but DO NOT use it as a magical remedy.

I used to use something called Engine Restore. It's similar, and it supposedly reconditions seals and extends the life of the oil.

All additives are band-aids and marketing ploys. Sure, they do have some effect on the oil/fluid/whatever, but they will just make you feel good about putting it in your car. The actual effect is not that high.

If you want to really make a difference, get Royal Purple oil and throw that in (don't do it if it's an older/high mileage engine). RP has substantial advantages over conventional oils. The oil change will cost you 60$ with a good filter, but it's worth every penny.

I have a 97 Gt (auto) with 86,000 miles on it. Would royal purple synthetic oil be good for me? Ive always used Mobil 1 full synthetic
5w-30. I saw that Royal Purple only comes in 5w-20, if i were to get an oil change and switch to the RP 5w-20 would that cause problems?

You would not be able to see any change, especially since you have been running a full syn for so long on that car. Stick with what has been working for you.

The variable cam actuator mechanism does NOT like viscosity changes. 5W-20 is pretty important. Also the car is spec'ed to 5W-20 not 30.

His 1997 GT is speced to 5W-30 according to my manual.

And I don't believe the pre 2005 4.6's have variable cam technology. Did some checking, Ford introduced VCT to the modular family in 2004 with the 5.4 liter 3 valve truck motor.

I would agree that 5w-20 would be fine in his car, though. I use that weight in mine, and my ML500 as well.

I play with that gear thing every time I'm in the parts store

I'm old school and especially now days you don't want to put anything in the car that isn't normal, factory sanctioned fluids.

Two exceptions are a bottle of Techron once in a while is good for your fuel system and believe it or not LubeGard for the automatic tranny....

My 4R70W has always been a little unhappy around the torque converter lock-up speed. Just a little undecided and really nothing anyone driving the car other than me would notice.
It;s very common with the Ford 4R70W BTW, even on the newer models

I have a tranny cooler, Jmod and just dumped the fluid at 30k with new Mercon V and a filter. i drained the torque converter as well.

This helped the bucking a little bit but it still dives me nuts.

So on a whim i do some research and LubeGard keeps coming up as the stuff to use for this problem.

Well, one bottle (10 oz) and my problems are gone. The sag going into lockup is gone, the slight bucking is gone and the tranny shifts smooth as silk.

Understand you have to get the CORRECT TYPE for your kind of tranny.
If you are using Mercon V you want the RED BOTTLE Fluid protection stuff. it will NOT work with Type F. You need a differnt version for that.

You DO NOT want the stuff that turns Dexron into Mercon etc.
I wouldn't go near anything like that.

From an old timer like me who never uses stuff like this I have to admit I am impressed.

i just used a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix and it seemed to solve the converter lock up problem a lil...it kicks a little less now, but it still drives me nuts. I also have added a tranny cooler and had a flush/fill done before adding the Lucas. so far so good <knocks on wood>.
