Default MAC Pro Chamber Install

I just got back from my dad's and i talked him into helping me with my pro chamber install. He is very leery about installing it because he said that everytime he's worked on an exhaust, its been very difficult (especially the bolts up at the headers). Is this something i should let a shop do or can we do it ourselves? I saw an article on an install and it looks easy, but again my dad says things never go as planned. My dad knows way more about cars than i do and if there's a tool, hes got it. So im pretty confident, but like i said, hes not. I've seen install times from 1 to 3 hours, is this a pretty decent estimate, because again my negative nancy dad says its an all day thing?

On a 1-10 scale, I'd put a midpipe install at a 4. It's fairly simple, once you get the bolts on the passenger side header loose (the bolt that connects the header to the midpipe). Soak all the bolts with wd40 before the install. Make sure you have a big a$$ socket wrench and plenty of extensions. Also make sure you have the gasket that goes in between the passenger side header and midpipe. I got mine from the dealer. Start from the front of the car and work your way backward. And dont tighten everything up completely until the midpipe is in there. Good luck!

Good advice there. It is a bit of a pain. I would say it will take anywhere from 1-3 hours, depending on just how hard those passenger side header bolts want to be. Definitely getan OEM style metal gasket and trash the paper one that comes with the mid pipe.

Well, the old man looked at it with me for 2 hours and he said, heres 100 bucks, go pay someone to do it (hes gettin lazy in his old age) so i just got back from the place and had my pro chamber put in and it sounds great, but the guys at the shop told me that instead of buying mufflers and messing with that, i should just cut the muff's out all together and use straight pipes. The guy there told me that because the prochamber is what it is, it acts kinda like muffler. Any thoughts on that? I asked here a long time ago about just doing a catted mid pipe and no mufflers and that got a resounding boo! So im pretty sure what my answer's gonna be, but any thoughts would be appriciated

It somewhat acts like a muffler, but not really. These cars sound like complete crap with straight pipes. The only time it sounds right is a high compression or high boost race only car.

the prochamber isn't a muffler...it's a box

I've never heard it with straight pipes from the chamber back but I'm assuming it would sound too loud...and not in the good way either...

you could of spent those 100 bucks on some better mufflers and done the prochamber yourself...it takes an hour and aside from my intake and shifter...it was a really straightforward and simple install

disconnect the exhaust from the chamber back and see what it sounds like, it might give you an idea i don't think having pipes on it will make a real big difference it's like putting dumps on it before the axle it's going to be real loud mind you.. good luck

Yeah, it's going to be incredibly loud and possibly get you all kinds of unwanted attention from law enforcement.

I decided to go with some flowmaster weld ins. I got a good deal on ebay =) I decided this because if it was gonna be that much louder, i would hate it, because i have an exhaust leak that im getting fixed today, and it sucks. It's partially my fault i guess since i watched the guy do it and watched the passenger side header gasket fall off the lift and the installer kick it to the side and not reinstall it, but i said to myself, self, if this guy does this for a living and didnt think the gasket is an issue, it must not be one. Well, it is an issue, lemme tell ya...i sound like a 1970's P.O.S. beater truck thats on its last leg. Live and learn i guess.
