Default Upgrading Suspension in 97 Gt

My am thinking of upgrading the suspension of my GT. But i am not sure of what i should start with, or what brands to look at. I am trying to do this as cheap as possible but with high quality parts. If anyone has any ideas of what steps i should take it would be appreciated. Thank You!

What is it your looking for in your suspension? Better handling on the street, road course racing, more grip on the drag strip. Many good companies (MM, Steeda, Griggs) have packages for your desired application, but they are not cheap. I started with Granatelli control arms, and I am already replacing them due to failure of the bushings. The failure is partly my fault as the arms I purchased were more for drag than street, and my car is street driven 98% of the time.

Start simple if your trying to keep the cost down. Springs will drop your car a bit, and CC plates will help correct your alignment after the drop. Control arms with polyurethane bushings will also give you a better feel for the road and more grip on your launches.

Agree w/Funky Boss; need to be clear on suspension direction.
My 96 vert has the full Kenny Brown AGS1 suspension kit: Bilstein Sports, springs, K-member brace, subframes, etc. - it's harsh on the street. My '01 vert has Eibach Pros/Bilstein H/D's and is much more confortable. Neither sees any track time; both street cruisers.

How do you want to use the car?
A daily driver, street/strip or an autocross/open track car all need different things.

your probably going to spend around 1500 to have a decent setup and it will definitely be worth it because i have mine set up for the street but it handles beautifully. the mods i have for suspension are listed below. also i suggest stang suspension.com because they are cheaper then many of the sites funny thing is they sell Maximum motorsports items cheaper then they actually do. i also ordered form them because they give a military discount. but make sure you do your research and ask around i researched through at least 8 different sites comparing prices and what not if you have any more questions just ask. make sure you keep your town in mind and how their roads are there and as ppl have stated before if you want it for street/drag etc

If I was doing it, knowing what I know now; the first thing would be buy a set of lowering springs (you can get a set for $200 from summit) and upgrade your sway bars to 1 5/16'' in front and 15/16'' in back. (I have seen front and rear bar kits for $300) the whole thing will cost $500 and you might actually be satisfied with just those changes alone. The front bar can be a bear but the springs are easy. I lowered the whole car in two hours by myself. The rear bar will take ten minutes if you are slow. You will want to get new upper control arm bushings. Infact new upper and lower tubular ams are cheap and they will come with new bushings. Wait til you see the old bushings you take out.

ford has a kit that is basically what the 99-04 bullit uses. only a 1 inch drop in the front and .75 inch in back, and some beafier sway bars. there is also another kit, its the same thing except based off a mach 1. ive herd nothing buy good things and im planning on using the bullit one on my 96 GT. i think its pretty cheap to.
