Default A few Dyno Tune Questions

Ok, i live in Ann Arbor Michigan, i am thinking of getting a dyno tune. The first problem is that i can;t find a shop that does it. I also would like to know what the difference between getting a tune at a dyno shop and using the Xcal or diablo? And lastly, wouldn;t a dyno test be harmful to your vehicle? I am always scared of damaging my transmission and engine, so i am pretty nervous about the dyno. If anyone has any ideas of a shop or any advice for me i would really appreciate it!
Thanks,
Steve

You can use the dyno shop locator at www.sctflash.com . All of the dealers shown can tune your car using the xcal2. Techniqually the dyno is harmful to your car because they'll be running it hard. But any mod you do to your car will shorten its lifespan/reliability. Gotta pay to play...

By all means get your car on a dyno, this will allow them to take full advantage of the mods you have, not just max HP but driveability also. They can set your A/F ratio better for MPG if its runing rich when it shouldn't be. It will only be run up to red line in 4th gear a few times and won't hurt anything plus with an XCal2 they can put in a few settings for different fuel, like 87 octane and 93 octane if you wish and things like that. When a car is run and set up on a dyno you can get the best out of it like it should be, good luck.

Dyno tuning is very important once you get all your air flow mods done (intake and exhaust) you have to make sure that the car has adjusted to the new flow rates and is not running lean, especially in the sumer time. Also it will give someone who has experience a chance to maximize performance from your car by advancing ignition timing and fuel tables. Yes, it's is somewhat harmful to the car in that it's being thrashed for a few seconds about 5 times or so, but it's not like they will be doing this repeatedly without letting the car cool off. Make sure that they use a fan in front of the radiator to keep air moving across it and the car should be just fine.

so basically what you guys are saying is instead of buying a cai that requires a tune i can just buy it then take it to the dealership and they will tune it for me so i dont have to buy a handheld one?
