Default 1/4 Mile time with Traction

Ok I took my car to the track (Englishtown NJ) It is bacisaly a few hundred feet above sea level in case that matters. The car ran:

14.27 @ 103.8 MPH
14.43 @ 103.3 MPH
14.60 @ 102.7 MPH

The fastest time was the last of the day. The problem is I can't hook up. I keep spinning the tires or the slowest time I bogged it to not spin the tires. It is not really important enough for me to buy a set of slicks for the car, but I would like to know with a good driver and good set of tires what my car would do. The 103MPH seems high for those times. from what I read 14.20 in the quarter should be at about 96MPH.

So my question is what do you all feel my car would do with a good driver and slicks.

It is a 2001 GT /5 Speed. with 3.73's and K&N CAI. Other than that it is stock.

I'm not going to attempt to play mathematician but I'd like to suggest maybe getting a set of upper and lower control arms to help with your traction issues.

man dude i run 14.1 in the quarter doing 95 - 98. that doesnt make sense - I'm a mile above sea level and today im getting the gears thrown in - i should be running low 13's to high 12's due to the altitude. i agree with some lca and uca maybe some suspension work - you should be running faster than my auto at that altitude

That is what I felt. I am not hooking up. I am sure I could break the 14 flat or maybe 13.90 if I try a few differnt launch techniques. But I still think I should be doing 13.5 or so with that trap speed. Guess i need suspension and or tires

Exactly my thoughts. AT LEAST buy the lower control arms. Go with MM. The uppers are really needed for straight line acceleration, they are more for corners.

Hey Everyone. Thanks for all of the info. I'm proud of my baby lol!! For the few mods i've done she runs really nice. I am running Riken Raptor Tires - 245 / 45ZR17. Average cheap tires : )

You need a set of DR's if you want traction at the track. And especially just stay away from cheapo tires!

What were your 60' times? With your setup you should be able to run 2.0 60's. They say every tenth in your 60' is good for two tenths in your ET.

My best 60 foot time was 2.362, that was my last of four tries and I still had some tire spin. I'm sure with more practice I can shave of a couple more tenth's on my overall ET. Next year will hopefully be faster when I put the new intake manifold throttle body upper plenum and new tune. 3.73's are looking really good about now as well
