Default help!! 1st 4.6 need info quick

im a brand new member iv just bought a 4.6 for my auto class project i got the engine for $200 its in great condition but i just recently found out that its a 1991 4.6 used for front wheele drive lincolns and i was told that they are horrable for perfomance apps but is it the heads that are bad or the whole unit and is it possable to put dohc heads on a sohc block i appreciat any help i get thanks

The heads are just the start of why that engine is weak. The cams are very mild, compression is low and the intake manifold is restrictive. The good part is you got the entire engine for less than what a block alone would cost. As long as the block and crank are in good shape, you're ahead of the game. Swap some 99+ heads, cams and intake (these are known as the PI or performance improved parts) and you should be in good shape.

The block can NOT be used. FWD lincoln blocks have different motor mount locations, making it impossible to use on a RWD application.

the motor mounts wont be a big deal it wont be going in a 4.6 mustang
