Default SOHC to DOHC 4.6 conversion

Just recently I came across some Intech dohc cylinder heads off of a 4.6L lincoln continental. I got them for a really good price and want to replace the suffocating sohc heads that came on my 96 GT. I know i'll need a new intake and exhaust, but has anyone performed this operation before and know what else I'll need for the conversion? Thanks.

Not possible.

If you want a DOHC 4.6, be ready to fork out $4000 for a longblock.

would it cost 4 grand to totally convert a sohc to a dohc or is that just the price for the longblock not including labor and extras?

Lol... guys...

a longblock = full engine, Throttle Body to Oil Pan.

Essesntially you rip out your whole GT engine, and drop in the Cobra engine.... however there are things such as the ECU, and a few other odds and ends that either need to be moved or changed.

It would probably cost you $8000 total parts and labor if you wanted something... and even then, it would be smarter to just sell your GT, and just buy a Cobra.

Vt Competition out of Lansing Michigan is offering a 8500.00 5.2 DOHC Long Block stroker with FR500 heads. Might as well just blow your money on that.

All the places I've seen, a long block is just a short block (block, pistons, rods, crank, etc.) with cylinder heads.

That 5.2L with FR500 heads would be a VERY nice motor. Although it may be cheaper to stick a 5.0 in it, it wouldn't be smog legit, mostly because a 96 or newer Mustang never came with one.

Mike Tymensky has done what you're looking for... I saw him on ESPN2 a while back talking about his 2v iron block mated to DOHC heads... Here's a link to the article talking about it:
