Default cutting stock springs.. good idea?

hey everybody.
i've been looking into lowering my car recently.. first i was looking at buying some springs, but most of them are a little pricey for me (at least $150 for springs and $200 for install) but after i went into the shop, the owner said that they could just cut the stock springs for a drop of about 1"-1.5" for $200.

my dad works with motorcycles and he said that he's done this to a bunch of bikes with no problems. the shop owner said the same thing, but i was just wondering what you all thought about it. my budget is pretty tight, being that im in high school & only working part time. so im not sure if its worth saving up another $150 for the same drop in height if i can do it cheaper. suggestions?

there´s no problem by cutting the springs just for a drop of 1" or 1.5", I have been doing that in so many cars for a couple of years without any problems, the last one that I cut was a 83 merc capri ..

Here in Mexico, for instaling a new set of springs is around 50 bucks, thats what I paid for!

Sorry for the bad english, lol !

I would strongly advise against it. Its an hour install, and you can get some good Ford Racing C springs for about 110. Do yourself a favor and do it right!

x2.

Cutting the stock springs will make your ride really bouncy, so I've heard.
You can get some MaxSpeed springs on ebay for a total cost with shipping for right under $100. and there's some other brands. I got the Maxspeed springs and don't have any issues, though, they didn't drop the car as low as some of the others.
I found an individual that would install them for $100, and he had no problems putting them in in a couple hours at his house. So, I got dropped for about $190 total.

thanks for all the feedback, guys.
i'm reallly leaning towards just cutting the stock springs because i'm impatient and cheap. =D

but i was looking at the Ford C springs.. just not sure if im willing to spend another $100+ and then have to wait for shipping... i'm only gonna have the car for the rest of this semester then i'm gonna be off to the air force academy (hopefully) and i won't be able to take my car.. i just wanna get some (cheap) enjoyment out of it while i can

BTW Stork:
that drop looks awesome.. you can really tell when it's next to the stock GT
